Paycom Online Linux System Administrator III in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

This role of Linux System Administrator III, is to maintain the server environment by identifying system requirements, provisioning new systems, installing upgrades, managing software maintenance and licensing. The Linux Systems & Tools team is responsible for all Paycom application servers across all Paycom datacenters. As a Linux System Administrator, you will collaborate with the team in the architecture, configuration, and maintenance of all Linux Systems projects, tools and processes, as well as participate in troubleshooting, remediation, and documentation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the architecture design and determining system requirements for all new server requests

  • Configure Linux operating systems on virtual machines and physical servers

  • Work support tickets assigned to the Linux Systems & tools team

  • Review system performance and logs and provide reports for managements awareness into the technical health of Paycoms infrastructure

  • Capacity planning and forecasting

  • Develop team documentation for day to day duties and gained team knowledge

  • Keep systems properly configured, updated, healthy, hardened and scaled to meet the needs of the business

  • Work with various technology teams to pro-actively evaluate DR plans, backup requirements, and failover procedures

  • Communicate with vendors to ensure we are properly licensed and up to date on renewals

  • Be responsible for and act as subject matter expert on any assigned systems

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:

  • 3+ years of professional IT experience

  • 3+ years supporting Linux servers editions

Skills/Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of Linux Server operating system editions

  • In depth knowledge and experience of web application architecture and technologies

  • Bash or similar command line tools used to manage and automate

  • Using a log aggregation tool, such as Splunk, for troubleshooting and reporting

  • Linux and Windows server administration – applying patches, ensuring health, right-sizing, ensuring quality DR architecture, and troubleshooting problems

  • Data retention and capacity planning

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in MIS, Info Sys, Computer Science or related fields

  • RHCA/Linux+

Experience:

  • System administration experience in med-large private datacenter environments

  • Proven track record of building and maintaining highly available system architecture

  • High availability and disaster recovery planning and design

  • System performance reviewing experience of existing architecture for any changes to the system and that require updates

Skills/Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge Linux Server operating systems and built in tools

  • Knowledge of Windows Server operating systems and built in tools

  • Knowledge of VMware and virtual environments

  • Experience with VDI/VMware Horizon

  • Knowledge of Networking/Firewall components

  • Multi-node system architecture planning and design

  • Good understanding of web application architecture and technologies
