The VP, Solid Tumors-Lung DAS, will oversee a multidisciplinary team to advance the scientific strategy and business plan for the discovery and development of lung cancer therapeutics. This team will be responsible for determining the strategy for drug discovery and development in lung cancer across the Johnson & Johnson pipeline and executing on a business plan with clear deliverables and resource needs. The position requires close collaboration with functional areas (including Discovery, Translational Research/Diagnostics, Clinical Development) as well as key stakeholders outside Oncology R&D. Included in the strategy will be a determination of the priorities and approach to leveraging external opportunities from both academia and industry.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead the strategy and operational activities to deliver a portfolio of programs that aim to improve the life of patients with lung cancer.

  • Guide the discovery and early development of New Molecular Entities, including novel target identification, translational research and, the continual application of innovative approaches towards treating lung cancer.

  • Work closely functional partners (Translational, CMC, Clinical, Regulatory) to ensure an integrated and strategic approach to flawless execution and systematic oversight of lung cancer programs.

  • Champion external opportunities to accelerate/broaden the overall DAS strategy by working in close partnership with Business Development and the Innovation Center network.

  • Build and foster cross-sector and Cross-DAS collaboration with key stakeholders to advance novel drug strategies.

  • Work closely with DAS Leaders, compound development teams, and Janssen Oncology senior leadership to align on portfolio priorities and identify resource needs for priority program execution.

  • Interact with clinical investigators and Key Opinion Leaders and oversee scientific advisory boards as appropriate to execute strategy.

Qualifications

  • M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in Thoracic Oncology or Oncology with experience in lung cancer and at least 10 years of experience in drug discovery, translational research, and/or clinical development is required.

  • The VP, Lung DAS must have significant knowledge of basic and clinical landscape of lung cancer and be externally recognized as a leader in the field of drug discovery/development and lung cancer.

  • A strong track record of delivering small molecule and biologics programs from discovery through development is required.

  • Strong leadership skills (direct people management and matrix management) with highly collaborative instincts are required.

  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with basic and clinical scientists, including biologists, pharmacologists, as well as with regulatory and commercial colleagues, is preferred.

  • The individual must be able to collaborate well with cross functional groups. They will build teams effectively, inspire followers, instill a global mindset, and champion best practices.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $242,000 to $446,200.
