MOC-FV Elementary Special Education Teacher in Orange City, Iowa

MOC-Floyd Valley is looking for an energetic, compassionate, student-centered elementary special education teacher to serve students at MOC-Floyd Valley Elementary School. Candidates must have or be able to obtain a Strategist II license.

Personalized classes and character-building programs help to lay a solid foundation for early learners in the MOC-FV School District. Students at MOC-FV Elementary receive a strong basic skills education, emphasizing language arts and mathematics, as well as an introduction to activities such as talented and gifted programs, orchestra, and band. One indicator of success is our performance on national tests, where we consistently score above the 90^th^percentile. Another measure is having the school recognized by the Iowa First in the Nation in Education (FINE) Project for the exemplary manner of educating MOC-Floyd Valley students.

JOB SUMMARY

The special education teacher will be responsible for specially designed instruction, delivering targeted interventions to meet the unique needs of students, and engaging students in learning opportunities to meet their needs in their individualized education plan (IEP). The teacher will frequently communicate with the student, their parent/guardian, general education teacher(s), learner assistant(s), and school administrators. The teacher will facilitate IEP meetings, maintain accurate record progress monitoring records in accordance with the IEP, and provide all parties with updates as detailed in the IEP. The teacher must be committed to servant leadership; make and honor collaborative decisions; communicate openly, honestly and frequently; operate transparently while demonstrating a respect for privacy; model respect; and advocate equity for all students.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning by developing schemes of work and tests that are in accordance with established procedures. Ensure classroom is prepared for activities.

Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment by using relevant technology and a variety of learning materials and resources to support and differentiate instruction. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.

Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Discipline shall be maintained in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the district.

Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies. Observe and evaluate student's performance and development, assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments. Provide appropriate feedback.

Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development and update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations. Prepare required reports on students and activities.

Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.

Demonstrate preparation and skill in worki g with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
