Job Summary
The Control Systems Engineer will design, code, test, debug and document new electrical control system hardware and software for mobile equipment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Collect and process design criteria for large scale design projects
Independently lead cross functional research and development and design teams for major product development projects
Assure all project design criteria is met
Lead and present complex design reviews to all level of management as well as internal and external customers
Represent GSE as an expert in existing and emerging technology
Perform product failure analyses, report findings, and develop and implement purposed solutions
Conceive, design, check, validate, and test complex electrical and software control systems for heavy mobile equipment
Utilize expert knowledge to lead and implement innovative, practical, and safe designs and solutions to complex issues
Evaluate competing and new technologies to develop new designs and concepts.
Provide expert knowledge of industry and regulatory design and safety requirements
Produce designs in compliance with such requirements
Lead in-house and independent certification processes to confirm compliance with such requirements
Provide strong leadership to multidiscipline design teams
Become a respected mentor and coach for team members
Maintain schedule attainment goals, accuracy goals, and cost containment targets for large scale projects with multiple design segments
Become a respected and trusted resource for the Sales and Marketing team. Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers to influence purchase decisions
Represent GSE throughout the industry to protect our interests, convey our expertise, and advance the industry knowledge base
Ability to apply knowledge from all disciplines of engineering (mechanical, electrical, hydraulics, and software) to the design and control of complex mobile equipment systems
Expert application of engineering skills within their degree discipline.
Utilization of Siemens NX and Teamcenter to create and revise 2D and 3D models and drawings
Perform product validation, manufacturing, and test duties for extended periods of time as required by business needs or training purposes
Lead software standards committee focused on standardizing and improving software development processes and procedures
Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology and ten+ years relevant experience
OR – Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology and eight years relevant experience
OR – Engineering PhD and five years relevant experience
Project management skills
Expert knowledge of multiple technologies, products, and applications. Demonstrated innovative skills to research and develop new products, systems, and processes. Demonstrated use of advanced laws, theorems, and industry knowledge in design efforts
Advanced knowledge of competing and alternate technologies
Broad understanding of business practices including product cost structures, internal and external business needs, impact of external economic factors on business elements and product design, and the impact of engineering decisions on sales and marketing teams
Demonstrated experience leading cross functional design teams in new product development
Excellent written and oral communication skills including preparing and delivering presentations to large and small audiences, creating critical analysis or comparison of concepts, and the communication of technical topics to non-technical people
Demonstrated ability to lead and achieve positive results from problem resolution efforts involving customers, vendors, and internal personnel
Must be comfortable working within time constraints and working with multiple priorities
Excellent Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office software
Understanding of engineering and manufacturing BOMs
Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement processes
Demonstrated knowledge of value engineering processes
Understanding of MRP systems
Ability to work productively and cohesively in a diverse and multicultural environment
Additional Training:
Siemens NX, Teamcenter, and drafting standards
Operation of GSE equipment
Safety and shop practices
GSE work instructions
Various software packages
Other training as needed
