Great Prairie Area Education Agency has an opening for an School Social Worker SEBH Interventionist.

192-day contract (plus 2 orientation days initial year) beginning with the 2024-2025 school year.

Region 3: Cardinal, Davis County, Moulton-Udell, Ottumwa, Ottumwa Christian and Seton Catholic.

Region 4: Fairfield, Maharishi, Mediapolis, Morning Sun, Mt. Pleasant, WACO, Wapello and Winfield-Mt. Union.

Position Overview:

The School Social Work Interventionist will partner with local schools to provide social-emotional-behavioral instructional interventions and support the implementation of the local schools’ MTSS.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited program.

  • Obtain Iowa Bachelor in Social Work License (LBSW).

Responsibilitie s:

  • Support school efforts to develop and implement a MTSS for social-emotional-behavioral health (SEBH).

  • Support SEBH screening processes and program evaluation in schools.

  • Participate as a member of the school-based intervention team.

  • Implement evidence-based instructional interventions for social-emotional skill development and/or positive behavioral interventions and monitor learner progress to assess the effectiveness of the interventions provided.

  • Develop and implement evidence-based intervention strategies to increase academic success, resolve conflicts, support anger management, increase appropriate social interaction skills, and assist learners to understand and accept themselves and others.

  • Provide crisis intervention response when needed.

  • Obtain and coordinate community resources to meet learners' needs.

  • Identify and mobilize family, school, and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program

  • Assist parents in accessing and utilizing school and community resources.

  • Provide case management for learners and families requiring multiple resources.

  • Participate in the GPAEA school social work network for those providing direct services in schools and work under the supervision of a GPAEA School Social Worker.

  • Comply with policies, procedures, standards and rules in accordance with Federal and State law, the Iowa Department of Education and GPAEA, which includes but is not limited to developing and maintaining required documentation and record keeping.

  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned to the Regional Director.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel between schools/sites served.

  • Normal, routine levels of activity related to bending, carrying, climbing, hearing, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, vision and walking. At times, the job may also involve above average levels of activity which can't always be anticipated.
