POSITION SUMMARY

The Equipment Design Engineer role will function as technical management of equipment manufacturing design processes for the Food Business and our customer base. Responsible to prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor assigned design engineering activities.

POSITION SCOPE

The Equipment Design Engineer role will focus on equipment design engineering activities to help facilitate both in-house and customer specific equipment drawing progression and completion. This role involves working with a cross-functional team to help innovate existing engineering design for manufacturing & assembly and implement solutions to meet customer needs. Responsible to coordinate and monitor assigned equipment design engineering activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Preparing, scheduling, and coordinating of assigned design engineering projects, primarily in production-scale machinery built to customer specifications for end use in their facilities.

  • Responsible to maintain overall design of in-house equipment builds.

  • Develop and implement drawing design change management process.

  • Oversee overall design drawing database, retention of drawing revisions, and inputting archived drawings into database.

  • Produce 3D / 2D drawings as required to facilitate customer project needs and overall design of equipment.

  • Perform machined / fabricated part quality inspections to ensure dimensional accuracy to drawings; report any non-conformances to vendors.

  • Develop technical knowledge of Equipment Machine Product Design and functionality – Knowledge base will be used in future product design development.

  • Innovate and optimize existing equipment manufacturing & assembly designs for future cost out and / or efficiency opportunities.

  • Ensure design compliance with standards, codes, policies, practices, and specifications. These include regulatory and international guidelines, as well as those of the customer.

  • Work with various in-house departments on the design lifecycle, drawing organization and prioritization, and customer collaboration.

The Ideal Candidate

Desired Background

Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related discipline desired. 3-5 years of experience in project engineering, project management, design engineering, or equipment integration.

Knowledge, Skills & Talents

More specifically, we would seek the following attributes and competencies for the position:

  • Position based in Pittsburgh, PA

  • Full time position working 5 days per week.

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.

  • Knowledge & experience in design / visualization software – SolidWorks & AutoCAD.

  • Ability to perform quality part inspections of machined / fabricated parts to ensure accuracy to drawing (i.e. experience with physical measurement tools).

  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently under general supervision.

  • Exposure to drafting electrical schematics / P&ID / CAD diagrams.

  • Advanced skill in MS Office Suite of tools. Comfortable with data tracking, document preparation, and giving reports / presentations.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required. Travel up to 5%.

  • Must have good verbal communication skills and be able to write technical reports or documents for either internal or external use.

  • Good interpersonal skills are needed as the person interfaces within the business and customer base.
