Today, there is an opportunity to join our Government & Industry Affairs team to manage the advocacy agenda for Corteva in Chile.

This position will report to the Southern Cone Government & Industry Affairs leader (based in Buenos Aires, Argentina) and be responsible for developing and executing the Chile Government & Industry Affairs strategy. At a minimum, the position will be responsible for:

  • Planning, developing, and leading the country-specific implementation of government and industry affairs programs in Chile. Strategies are typically designed to promote regulatory acceptance of products and critical commercial business growth initiatives.

  • Supporting/co-leading the Chile Risk Mitigation Team in the areas identified as critical for the company.

  • Engaging local key stakeholders -abiding by the local regulation- to advocate for Corteva's interests.

  • Improving company reputation in the political and regulatory environments.

  • Participating in the Government Affairs task forces in key associations.

  • Providing local operation with insights about the external environment.

  • Coordinating community affairs initiatives for the operational sites in the country.

  • Main priorities would include: Freedom to operate, right to invest, market access, regulation of products and inputs, customs or tariffs, export controls, trade policy development and negotiation, strategic partnerships

  • Conduct all duties in accordance with Corteva Core Values, including highest ethical behavior, and with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Share Corteva vision with external stakeholders

  • Identify key political and non-technical risks relevant to Corteva and develop comprehensive advocacy strategies, risk mitigations, and engagement plans in conjunction with key stakeholders.

  • Develop, manage, sustain, and enhance relationships with key external stakeholders relevant to the identified risks.

  • Leverage advocacy, intelligence gathering, analysis risk mitigation and relationships to contribute to business objectives.

  • Effectively advocate Corteva's positions on legislation and regulatory proposals, leveraging Commercial Unit, Regulatory, Legal, and External Affairs Network resources.

  • Represent Corteva to business-related Chambers/Councils/Associations and principal accountability for think-tanks/research houses.

  • Work as part of the International Government & Industry Affairs team in developing and managing Corteva's global positions on public policy issues.

Qualifications

We are searching for a candidate who possesses the following qualities:

  • At least five years of experience in government relations roles. A variety of assignments is preferred.

  • Experience in a multinational corporation or association focused on innovative sectors and/or food and agriculture sectors will be valued.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Government of Chile, multi-lateral agencies, trade associations, political and regulatory environments and decision-making processes.

  • Demonstrated understanding of how government officials develop and implement policy. Ability to analyze government policy/legislation and advocate corporate positions before senior policy makers, legislative staff, and the administration.

  • Demonstrated ability to: manage key stakeholder relationships, including grower and agriculture value chain; partner with government entities to collaborate and secure incentives to operate and innovate; integrate political risk mitigation strategies into product commercialization strategies; build partnerships and coalitions across value chain entities to advance common policy objectives; think strategically and exercise good judgment.

  • Able to work effectively in multi-functional and multi-cultural environment, and to build and sustain extensive network of relationships (internal and external).

  • Strong advocacy skills to promote public policy positions & strong interpersonal, networking, and public speaking skills, with the confidence and credibility to act quickly, communicate effectively, and command respect of audiences.

  • High levels of motivation and initiative to work in complex and ambiguous environments.

  • Fluency in English with strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets.

  • Availability to travel approximately 30% of the time.
