Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope of Position:

  • Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects.

  • Support manufacturing improvement initiatives, including fundamental understanding, variability reduction, defect reduction and process control improvement.

  • Improve existing manufacturing processes and capabilities.

  • Develop methods and processes to improve existing products.

  • Develop methods and processes to implement new products and processes.

  • Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems.

  • Supports drive to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

Provide leadership and support for existing and future products and processes to support improving and expanding businesses. Specific skill sets and activities will include leading and participating in:

  • Provides engineering expertise and leadership for process technologies within the Erwin Manufacturing Plant’s Forming Department (Corning Environmental Technologies).

  • Manufacturing problem solving as needed in support of operations, including root cause identification and implementation of corrective actions.

  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges using rigorous tools including problem analysis, DMAIC methodology, and data analysis.

  • Applies statistical control to key process variables to maintain process control across existing products

  • Provide input and support for new products

  • Implements and documents material, process and/or equipment advancement and “best practices” into production

  • Assures quality and repeatability of processes and products.

  • Assures safety of operators and equipment and Complies with safety and environmental regulations.

  • Leads projects/experiments that support key Division and Plant initiative

Education and Experience:

  • BS or MS in Engineering (Materials, Mechanical, Chemical)

  • Aptitude for successfully driving to root cause and implementing step change improvement in manufacturing.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem-solving and decision-making with minimal supervision.

  • Able to handle multiple complex tasks and set priorities with multiple internal customers.

  • Strong working knowledge of MS Excel and/or JMP, including formulas and graphing functions.

  • Practical experience with basic statistics, familiarity with advanced statistical methods. .

Desired Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC) methodology

  • Experience in manufacturing environment

  • Communication skills, both written and oral

  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills

  • Technical curiosity

  • Personal initiative and commitment

  • Organized with good planning and time management skills

  • Ability to build relationships within cross functional groups; team building skills

The range for this position is $66,664.00 - $91,663.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
