PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Under general supervision, diagnoses, maintains repairs and services a wide variety of diesel, gasoline and natural gas-powered equipment and vehicles; operates a variety of hand, power and shop tools; and performs related duties as assigned. This position is primarily scheduled as a second shift position. This position will report directly to the Preventive Maintenance Coordinator.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Always maintain safe work practices per company and federal policies.
Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services .
Ability to workday or night shift as needed to perform preventive maintenance practices necessary to increase service life of equipment.
Heavy equipment parts familiarization including parts catalogs, filters, and oils.
Maintain a courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers, and public.
Initiative to perform/assist with other positions for job completion;
Be able to be trained to operate various makes and models of equipment.
Perform equipment inspections after completing each job.
Perform record keeping of time and parts used on the appropriate forms.
Assist other maintenance department staff in performing the duties necessary to assure the efficiency of operations of vehicles and equipment.
Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
Ability to understand and carry out detailed written or oral instructions;
Be able to perform DOT inspections on over the trucks and trailers.
Maintain work area appearance and safety.
Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
Valid driver's license
Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school graduate, G.E.D., or equivalent studies/experience (preferred);
Vocational / Technical School or certification preferred, but not necessary.
Excellent communication skills.
Great attention to detail and stress tolerance.
Must be willing to work weekends and extended hours.
2 or more years' experience in diesel truck and heavy equipment preferred but not required
Must own tools.
Proficiency in the use of shop tools required and ownership of mechanic set;
Current CDL license with air brake certification preferred but not required.
