Job Description:

Parsons is seeking to add a professionally licensed mid-level (6-10 years of relevant work experience) Nuclear Engineer to its engineering team with experience and capabilities in nuclear safety and hazards analyses, accident analyses, and safety evaluations; and integrating nuclear engineering/safety requirements with design requirements.

Parsons is one of the largest Architect Engineer (AE) firms in the U.S. for nuclear facility design, construction, test and evaluation, startup and commissioning, and operations. Our analytic capabilities include fuels and materials performance studies; nuclear safety and criticality analyses; radiation shielding and As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) design; nuclear material handling and waste treatment process design and optimization; thermal and hydraulic analyses; and radiation assessments supporting Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) data package development.

What You'll Be Doing:

Nuclear Safety Analysis; Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA); Hazard and Accident Analyses

Safety Analysis Report Preparation; Safety Classification and Determination of Structures, Systems, and Component (SSC); Unreviewed Safety Question (USQ); Safety Basis Requirements

Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (e.g., criticality, shielding, radiation field, dose rate, etc.)

Operational and Technical Safety Requirement (OSR, TSR) Development

Radiation Shielding Design

Nuclear Reactor Physics

Passive and Active (e.g., Radiography) Radiation Detection Systems

Nuclear System Operations Review

Criticality Prevention Evaluation / Analysis

Radioactive and Hazardous Waste Management; Hazardous Material Protection Evaluation

Quality Assurance/Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) Requirements Development / Review

Nuclear Regulations and Licensing Support

Safeguards and Security Requirements Development / Review

Hazard and Risk Assessment; Probabilistic Risk Assessment; Hazard and Operability Studies

Dose Consequence Analyses; Fate and Transport Analysis; Atmospheric Dispersion Modeling

Radiation Protection and Control, Health Physics, and Human Factors Requirements Development / Review

Developing and performing assessments of safety basis documents including Preliminary Documented Safety Analysis (PDSA) or Documented safety Analysis (DSA); verifying the adequacy of hazard analyses and accident analyses in compliance with applicable DOE Codes and Standards and supporting documentation; and confirming alignment of these analyses with applicable design bases, facility and system design descriptions (FDD/SDD), and other engineering documents

Supporting nuclear facility design development and reviews in areas of nuclear safety and engineering

Providing independent system design and operability reviews; assessments of facility and system construction and system / facility turnover; and assessments to verify that nuclear facility AE contractors have adequate safety basis design and quality documentation to support an Operational Readiness Review (ORR)

Performing walk-downs of selected nuclear related systems, reviewing system turnover documentation, system testing procedures and testing results, and operational testing and testing reports

Providing technical issue resolution and redesign effort oversight to address design and operability issues related to nuclear safety

Reviewing nuclear facility design alternatives, proposed code of record exceptions, technical risk assessments, value engineering proposals, and significant baseline change proposals

Identifying and preparing value engineering assessments for opportunities to reduce cost and schedule or reduce mission life cycle risk

Performing reviews of nuclear facility startup and commissioning plans and strategies, testing schedules, and resource plans for reasonableness and risk.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

BS in Nuclear Engineering required; MS preferred

Professional Engineering (PE) license or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification towards taking the PE exam

Individual must possess knowledge in nuclear engineering and safety analysis functions, be proficient in application of nuclear engineering requirements to nuclear systems and facilities, with a minimum of 6-10 years of relevant work experience performing and documenting nuclear system hazards analyses, accident analyses, and safety evaluations; and successfully integrating nuclear safety requirements with other system / facility design requirements.

Individual must have relevant experience in application of DOE-STD-3009-2014, Preparation of Nonreactor Nuclear Facility Documented Safety Analysis , and be knowledgeable of DOE O 450.2, Integrated Safety Management , ASME Nuclear Quality Assurance (NQA-1) for Nuclear Facilities , and Code of Federal regulations 10-CFR-830 Subpart B - Safety Basis Requirements .

Significant engineering / design / operational experience in field execution.

Demonstrated qualifications and abilities in providing planning, control and compliance of work documents, to include contracts, nuclear facility / system designs, drawings, calculations, hazards and accident analyses, procurement specifications, construction submittals, component/system testing plans, operational preparation documents, etc.

Proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required due to government or federal requirements

Individual must be capable of obtaining a DOE site security badge

Minimum Clearance Required to Start:

Salary Range:

$83,300.00 - $145,800.00
