The Danville State Hospital is seeking an eager Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee interested in completing on-the-job training for the maintenance and repair of a wide variety of equipment and vehicles. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will participate in on-the-job training by working with the Diesel Mechanic to develop technical skills and knowledge in the maintenance and repair of various pieces of diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles, construction and maintenance equipment, and power generation equipment. Work assignments increase in difficulty as technical proficiency is acquired. Training and development activities are directed by the shop Supervisor and a higher-level mechanic who reviews work in progress and upon completion for technical accuracy. Work may involve:

  • Performing general mechanic tasks

  • Participating in analyzing and troubleshooting diesel fuel system problems

  • Diagnosing, rebuilding, and repairing vehicles such as heavy trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 26,001 or more pounds, backhoes, skid-steers, compact utility tractors, zero turn mowers, dump trucks, and handheld landscaping equipment

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

  • Overtime and travel may be required as needed. Work schedule may changes based on operational needs.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years as a Tradesman Helper (commonwealth title) working in the automotive field;or

  • Graduation from a post-high school diesel technology curriculum of an accredited trade or technical school;or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

    Special Requirements:

  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit or License on the first day of employment.

  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver’s License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed, or equivalent.

  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
