THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join their team at Chapman State Park. As an Environmental Education Specialist, your role will involve creating and conducting educational programs and activities related to the environment, interpretation, and outdoor recreation. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Your role entails overseeing educational and interpretive activities focusing on the environment and history, such as discovery learning, audiovisual presentations, guided walks, and other programs. Collaboration with recreation and entertainment programs is required to develop interpretive programs for park visitors. Responsibilities also include upkeep of environmental education and recreational equipment, as well as creating and distributing program schedules, brochures, press releases, and various forms of communication, including social media updates.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal, full-time employment without benefits.

  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Wednesday - Sunday, with 30-minute lunch.

  • Weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours per week.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in environmental education, education, the natural sciences, social sciences, or parks and recreation;or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Willingness to work weekends and evenings.

  • Willingness to wear a prescribed uniform.
