Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is independent programmatic work providing support the Tuberculosis (TB) Control Program. The position will maintain the integrity of the department by ensuring information supplied to staff, visitors and clients is technically correct and in compliance with all federal, state and departmental policies/ procedures. Support the Escambia County Health Department (Escambia CHD) by working with others to accomplish departmental goals; establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, local, county officials, Escambia CHD staff and clients; and conduct all activities in a professional manner exercising tact, confidentiality, diplomacy and sensitivity. This position works in all aspects of the TB Program, working under the direct supervision of the Biological Scientist Supervisor - SES. Travel may be required.

TB Control Services: Assists the TB nurse with TB control activities such as providing Directly Observed Therapy (DOT), sputa collection, referring clients for radiology procedures, lab testing, medication preparation and creating Medication Administration Records (MAR) for DOT, accepting and returning medications, maintain the medication ordering log, and finding contacts to TB clients. Will use the Health Management System (HMS) to document client interactions and maintain the medication tracking log. Assist with required intake documentation of new TB clients and contacts. Assist with data collection for required reports.

Immigrant Health Services: Assist with screening and registering all newly arriving immigrants to complete the health screening process in a timely manner. Assist with providing culturally and linguistically appropriate health orientation and education for all newly arrived, eligible immigrants. Uses the Electronic Disease Notification System to input and update immigrant information.

Administrative duties:

Assists the TB nurse with administrative duties. This includes invoicing and monitoring laboratory requisitions. Ensures that TB radiology and TB lab services are verified prior to authorizing payment . Reviews all purchase requests and reports any inconsistencies. Orders and receives items for the TB Program, coordinate purchases assuring that all purchasing requirements comply with state guidelines. The position is a Purchasing Card (P-card) holder abiding by purchasing guidelines, including documentation, justifications and reporting. Monitors the language line expenses.

Incentives and enablers: maintain the bus pass and taxi fare log, keeps track of the incentives and gift cards. Orders nutritional supplements as needed.

Responsible for answering multi-line telephones in a prompt, courteous and professional manner, screening, accurately recording messages and referring callers as appropriate. Ensures that recommendations made to the supervisor do not withhold information that could influence decision-making. Maintains the integrity of the department by ensuring information and advice supplied to customers is technically correct and in compliance with all federal, state and departmental policies and procedures.

TB vehicle: ensures that the maintenance schedule for the TB vehicle is completed on time and keeps TB vehicle clean.

Other Related Duties : Performs other related duties as assigned. Assures compliance with current Department of Health security policies by fulfilling the Information Custodian responsibilities described in Security Policy 3, areas of responsibilities. Ensures that data set (s) under this position’s responsibilities are available to those who need to know and protects the integrity of assigned dataset(s) and assists the Security Coordinator as needed to comply with policies and procedures.

    Qualifications:

    Education:

    Minimum: High School Diploma or high school equivalency diploma

    Preferred: Associates Degree

    Experience :

    Must have at least 1 to 3 years of work experience in a healthcare setting providing clerical and some patient care activities. Educational credentials may substitute for experience.

    Highly proficient in Microsoft Suites Programs.

    Experience with Electronic Health Records preferred.

    Valid Driver's License (Travel is required)
