Job Title: Channel Management Consultant

Salary: £60,000 - £75,000 (Depending on Experience)

Location : Peterborough / Birchwood

About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Job Opportunity.

The Channel Management Consultant role which is part of the marketing and channel development team at IPSD will be responsible for managing the overall relationship and ongoing development of the Perkins distribution network within the Africa and Middle East region.

This role will collaborate closely with independent Perkins distribution partners in the territory to drive capability development and growth across the core areas of their operations, to ensure a superior customer experience consistent with our brand promise, code of conduct and divisional growth goals. Additionally, this role will be responsible for leading distributor transitions, including appointments and terminations where needed to enhance sales and product support capabilities.

This position is ideally suited for candidates with previous channel management experience and a demonstrated ability to coordinate and align multiple stakeholders towards achieving shared objectives for the distributors and Perkins. This role requires leveraging previous field experience, a solid understanding of the distribution business model, project management expertise and knowledge of process improvement methodologies related to sales, service, and foundational capabilities.

What you will do

  • Have ownership of the execution of Distributor Excellence process in territory, including the analysis and monitoring of key performance indicators and leadership of governance reviews with senior management.

  • Work collaboratively across all levels within sales, marketing, service, and aftermarket to identify gaps in performance capabilities and take proactive leadership of initiatives and projects aimed at closing these gaps in a timely and planned way.

  • Operational ownership of the distributor financial scorecard to facilitate strategic discussions on investment strategies and risk assessment.

  • Formulate long term strategies to enhance the Perkins distribution network within the territory, proactively addressing underperformance and managing distributor transitions including appointments and terminations in a manner that mitigates risk.

  • Serve as the main liaison between Perkins and distributor leaders on tactical issues within the territory to strengthen the overall partnership.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to Perkins distributor owners/leaders to ensure ongoing alignment to the IPSD Full Power strategy.

  • Identify best practises and develop tools or training packages to address skills and capability gaps within the territory

  • Ability to negotiate successfully across the organization and with distributors in a constructive and collaborative manner.

  • Being able to uses active listening and probing techniques to surface problems, issues, and interests.

  • Distributor environments vary, and being flexible and open-minded to adapt to change and navigate through dynamic situations is vital.

  • Ability to apply global perspectives appropriately in a wide range of situations.

  • Obtains information regarding operational issues of other countries when making business decisions.

Top candidates will ideally:

  • Demonstrate an understanding and of channel management and distributor business models.

Additional Information:

  • Travel expectation is 10%-15% (primarily within Africa and Middle East).

  • Hybrid working pattern – 3 days in the office.

What You Will Get

In this role you will work within a global team but operate independently day to day interfacing primarily with distributor leadership and IPSD personnel, including the Sales, Marketing, Product Support, Aftermarket, legal and compliance teams to identify, analyze and resolve distribution needs and problems in the territory.
