As a Building Inspector I for the City, you will be ensuring compliance with City ordinances and codes by reviewing residential construction plans and inspecting assigned projects.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Review residential and commercial plans for compliance with city ordinances, model codes, and state and federal requirements; compile written reports of plan reviews.

  • Conduct on-site inspections, as required by model codes and ordinances, and file written reports of each inspection.

  • Receive and evaluate building plans; ensure submitted packets contain completed application forms and a correct number of copies.

  • Address questions from citizens, builders, sub-contractors, engineers, architects, developers, and others regarding permit requirements, code requirements, and inspection requests.

  • Inspect for compliance and enforce the City's Zoning Ordinance, Sign Ordinance, and codes; communicate in writing with property owners.

  • Issue permits as necessary.

    Qualifications and Skill Requirements: Formal Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Relatable Work Experience: Verifiable experience directly related to construction, construction inspection, or construction-related education. Training, Licenses, and Certifications: Valid Class C Texas Driver's License. Must be able to obtain the following within the first six (6) months of hire: State Plumbing Inspector's License or B1 Residential Building Inspector's License. Preferred Qualifications: State Plumbing Inspector's License. B1 Residential Building Inspector's License.

    Disclaimer: Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is define as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
