Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Director of University Recreation, the Coordinator of Climbing/Staff Training and Development oversees day-to-day climbing wall operations to include, clinics/workshops, instructional, and team building programs. The Coordinator will also oversee student staff hiring, training, and student staff leadership opportunities for the department. Essential Functions Provide leadership to and oversee all aspects of the climbing wall program. Establish and enforce policies that provide for effective operation. Responsible for the effective delivery, evaluation, and reporting of the climbing wall program to include, but not limited to: program development, scheduling and implementation; program registration; equipment procurement, inventory, repair, and replacement; and participant development and discipline. Coordinate all climbing wall/adventure personnel including recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, development, payroll and discipline. Ensure all climbing wall/adventure personnel maintain training and certification in line with industry standards. Cover and provide scheduling for weekend, early morning, and evening programs and events/trainings as required. Responsible for procurement, coordination, and evaluation of vendor relations related to climbing wall/adventure program to include outsourcing contracts. Review and evaluate climbing wall/adventure program operations to ensure that appropriate risk management precautions and procedures are in place or developed. Manage climbing-related certifications and trainings for the climbing staff. Manage the scheduling of the climbing wall for drop-in recreation, clinics/classes and special events. Coordinate regular route settings, facility inspections, equipment ordering and general upkeep of the climbing facility. Required Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Education, Recreation, Sports Management, Exercise Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. (Please review the Equivalency Chart for additional information.) Minimum of 1 year of related experience. Current Climbing Wall Instructor Certification from either AMGA, CWA or PCIA or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire. Demonstrated experience and success managing an indoor climbing facility. Demonstrated experience training, developing and managing students or other staff. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree. Experience in Higher Education administration. Current certification as a Climbing Wall Instructor Provider/Trainer from the AMGA, CWA, or PCIA or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire. Experience supervising students working in collegiate recreational climbing facilities. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to bend, crouch, stoop. Ability to run, climb. Location University City, Philadelphia PA Additional Information This position is classified as Exempt, grade I. Compensation for this grade ranges from $41,120 - $61,680 per year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
