Summary:

The Ultra sonographer is responsible for performing all Ultrasound examinations assisting Radiologist with diagnostic procedures, sharing on call responsibilities. Must have thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy. Skilled and proficient in scanning Ultrasound protocols and assisting in invasive procedures. Strong communication and organizational skills. Effectively analyzes problems, identifies patient/customer needs and displays attention to detail in a team-oriented manner. Initiative, Judgment and Creative Ability: Must exercise initiative and judgment in implementing scanning techniques as they are developed. Must be flexible and able to accommodate frequent changes in protocols as they are developed

Responsibilities:

Physical/ Working Requirements: Stands, sits, turns, and stoops while operating equipment. Assists patient into position. Ability to move machine to different departments for portable ultrasound exams.

• Operate Ultrasound units.

• Prepare ultrasound rooms and maintain cleanliness of area.

• Interviews and screens patients prior to the examination and explains procedures to the patient.

• Assists changing patients into dressing gowns.

• Monitor patients in scan room during examination.

• Read all staff notes, attend section and quarterly meetings, and stays abreast of all changes within the Department.

• Communicate equipment problems and image quality issues.

• Film Ultrasound images to hard-copy format and archive exams.

• Advise all concerned in the proper procedures for various studies done in the section.

• Stock supplies and maintain equipment as needed.

• Maintains and provides annual registry certification from ARDMS and CPR within expiration date.

• Serve as liaison with referring physicians and patients to assist in scheduling exams; expedite patient studies as needed.

• Obtain consent forms as needed.

• Documents and maintains annual mandatory in-services.

Non-essential accountabilities:

• Scheduling patients, pages hospital personnel.

• Answers telephones and responds to request for information and reports.

• Occasionally transports patients

• All other duties as assigned.

Credentials:

Must be registered through RDMS

  • Amer Registry Radiologic Tech (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent required with graduation from an accredited Ultrasound program
