As part of the Global Merchant & Network Services group (GMNS), the Network & Acquirer Solutions (NAS) team is at the core of American Express, uniquely positioned to support every business unit and customer across the Enterprise. The American Express Network enables over $1.6 trillion in annual spend, serving our Issuers and Acquirers in more than 170 markets worldwide.

The Network & Acquirer Capability Delivery (NACD) team within NAS is on a multi-year journey to modernize the Global Payments Network, Merchant Payments and the Acquirer Platforms at American Express. We are responsible for modernizing and delivering core capabilities to ensure we can meet the unique needs of our Merchants, Acquirers, Proprietary Issuers and Bank Partners, and enable a wider variety of payments across the American Express Payment Network.

How will you make an impact in this role?

The Senior Manager, Digital Portfolio Management, will deliver end-to-end product portfolio management activities in alignment with strategic vision and roadmap. Evaluates business opportunities to define and optimize the product portfolio through analysis and understanding of targeted markets, market trends, new technology, customer business issues and the competitive environment. Assesses cost, risk, inter-dependencies, and impact on existing business activities to appraise investments and align investment with business objectives. Undertake planning activities required to obtain annual funding approvals for investments. Analyze the product portfolio, perform modelling and simulation to identify any restructuring required to maintain alignment with strategic vision and roadmap.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development of strategic budgetary plans in collaboration with cross-functional teams including digital product management, technology, finance and other stakeholders. Initiates and completes research and analyses requiring in-depth knowledge of the product and capability delivery strategies to drive portfolio development or improvements. Using assessment of market trends and the competitive landscape, makes recommendations for portfolio improvements for respective portfolios and strategies. Considers economics behind products and portfolios. Manages and presents materials. Responds to inquiries and demands from stakeholders across the organization.

  • Integrates quantitative and qualitative data to evaluate criteria for portfolio performance, competitive landscape, and the market environment to lead the selection of capability delivery focused priorities.

  • Builds and delivers senior leader presentations covering diverse topics including operations, delivery, finance and business challenges/status and drive proactive recommendations to solve complex portfolio challenges.

  • Establishes relationships vital to navigate organizational structures and diverse stakeholders in order to respond to internal team needs. Influences and may lead response and contribution to an informed stakeholder group by leading and providing general education, onboarding, one-on-one mentoring and facilitating monthly meetings on portfolio construction and performance.

  • Defines processes to streamline intake and demand management activities, capacity planning and tracking. Creates goals, metrics, targets, and measure portfolio management efficiency to identify ways to optimize processes.

  • Builds and delivers executive-level communications for ongoing priorities, including status updates, financial roadmap, dependencies, pressure points and key decisions requiring alignment

  • Demonstrates a willingness to continually learn and continuously implement frameworks and process improvements within a dynamic and highly matrixed environment

  • Manages department financials, including:

  • Preparation of annual budgets; analysis of budget trend, organizational data, and financial developments that may impact budgetary direction.

  • Manage day-to-day activities as related to specific budget areas including scope changes, resource changes, and vendor management.

  • Serve as subject matter expert regarding procedures and practices for financial and resource data management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a similar subject required; master’s degree in similar fields preferred. A focus on statistics, mathematics, and finance is beneficial.

  • 5 years of experience in a finance-based role required

  • Familiarity with Scaled Agile methodology preferred.

  • High-level of flexibility with the ability to absorb new information and adapt to change quickly.

  • Strong numerical abilities and capacity for analyzing data and numbers, with a particular attention to budget management necessary.

  • Proficiency in Excel and Power Point for creating reports and presentation.

  • Working experience with Oracle financial tools, such as Smart View, Essbase, TM1, and the Opex Management Tool is a plus.

  • Familiarity with company tools such as Ariba, PMDB, and Fieldglass preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to spot discrepancies in information.

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills

  • Team player, comfortable to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, within a cross-border, global team environment.

  • Ability to work independently and interact effectively with all organizational levels.

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to handle multiple assignments and tasks independently/with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills

Qualifications

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually bonus benefits
