SHI Lead IDCS Systems Engineer in Piscataway, New Jersey

Job Summary

The Lead IDCS Systems Engineer will build out, maintain, and enhance the deployment automation for the data center, as well as lead and train Systems Engineers. The Lead IDCS Systems Engineer will support BIOS and firmware, creating Operating System images, and verification of customer equipment. The Lead IDCS Systems Engineer will deliver a stable platform that will be used to analyze, configure, deploy, and validate hardware devices within a defined architecture. The Lead IDCS Systems Engineer will be the point of escalation for hardware and software related issues for the customer, OEMs, and other IDCS team members. The Lead IDCS Systems Engineer will report tothe Manager - IDCS Operations. This position is required to report to the SHI Piscataway NJ office location as determined by SHI management.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

  • Maintain and develop internal infrastructure, Cisco ACI network, and automation environment by monitoring systems and checking for error conditions

  • Write and maintain custom scripts to automate tasks including configuration and hardware verification to increase efficiency and remove human error

  • Collaborate with the internal Project Management and Quality Control teams to determine integration requirements, expectations, and timelines

  • Mentor and Train System Engineer team members to utilize industry tested and internally developed tools to configure and validate hardware and software to customer standards

  • Delegate workloads to Systems Engineers and move action items forward

  • Provide technical expertise and system capabilities to customers and sales teams through calls and meetings

  • Install, configure, validate, and troubleshoot data center hardware, software, and systems.

  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of internal systems availability by monitoring and anticipating workloads and making necessary adjustments to code or network configuration

  • Provide high level support and insight related to first article builds by vetting the design on paper and in the configuration center

  • Liaise with external vendors and IT OEM personnel for problem escalation and resolution

  • Design and implement the automation, information, and operational support systems that contribute to the stability of the platform and the cohesiveness of the output

  • Troubleshoot error conditions and any issues that are discovered internally and escalate to the Operations Manager if needed

  • Document procedures so team members can follow steps to complete a task

  • Quickly and efficiently respond to error messages received, and identify and troubleshoot the hardware and/or software issues

  • Must be reliable and dependable, see tasks through to completion, and required to give advanced notice when scheduling time off

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools (xCAT, Ansible, Cobbler, Chef, etc.)

  • Experience with Python, shell scripts and PERL

  • Experience working with RESTful APIs

  • Experience and capable operating in CLI-based environments

  • Experience with modern data center technologies and concepts

Certifications Required

  • Obtain or renew certifications in technology related disciplines such as Networking or Server Infrastructure at least once every 1-2 years

Unique Requirements

  • Extended hours are required to complete some special projects

  • Position requires the ability to move or lift up to 50lbs

  • May need to travel locally or nationally to conferences or client meetings (5%)

Additional Info Needed:

  • Full time

  • Multiple shifts covering roughly 6 am - 7 pm

  • Monday-Friday

Additional Information

  • The estimated annual pay range for this position is $60,000 - $130,000 which includes a base salary and bonus. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual. Benefits may include, but are not limited to, medical, vision, dental, 401K, and flexible spending.
