Research Instructor of Pathology

 

RANK/TITLE:

Research Instructor of Pathology (non-tenure stream) (1-5 years of experience)

 

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:

Division of Neuropathology, Department of Pathology, University of Pittsburgh.

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

The Research Instructor will work in the laboratory of Dr. Julia Kofler, Division of Neuropathology. He/she will be actively involved in the National Sports Brain Bank study, a registry and brain donation program for former contact sports participants at risk for repetitive traumatic brain injury. He/she will design and implement baseline and annual follow-up evaluations of all study participants, coordinate all study schedules, and perform data analyses. He/she will take the lead in implementing a pilot study evaluating different cognitive testing platforms in participants from the Alzheimer's disease research center and will perform data analyses to determine the most accurate platform for subsequent implementation in the NSBB study population. He/she will directly supervise two research coordinators and any students becoming involved in the project. Additional responsibilities will include maintenance of the REDCap study database, writing, revising, and submitting articles for publication, grant applications, and regulatory protocols (IRB, CORID, MTAs).

 

JOB DUTIES:

He/she will maintain the NSBB REDCap database and design and program new assessment tools in REDCap. The applicant will also establish a new REDCap protocol for the digital cognitive testing study to permit seamless integration of all platforms, consent forms, and participant scheduling. The applicant will work with staff at the Alzheimer's disease research center to identify eligible study participants and will be responsible for setting up a communication process with the research coordinators for appropriate scheduling of all study activities. He/she will be responsible for data extracts and data analyses for conference presentations, manuscripts, and grant applications. The applicant will stay up to date on relevant literature to incorporate new findings into study protocols as needed and to develop new assessment tools and follow-up projects. He/she is also expected to present regularly at research team/laboratory meetings and divisional conferences.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. MD, PhD degree or equivalent in field of Traumatic brain injury, Neurodegeneration, Population neurosciences.

  2. Work Experience of at least 1-5 years conducting independent experiments, data analysis and interpretation, and leadership in a collaborative environment.

  3. Prior training or experience in epidemiology/population neurosciences, traumatic brain injury, and cognitive assessments is highly desirable

  4. Prior experience with REDCap survey design and database management is mandatory

  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills

     

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
