UPMC Research Coord | The Sleep, Affective Neuroscience, and Development Lab in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Sleep, Affective Neuroscience, and Development Lab is looking for a Research Coordinator! In this position you will oversee research coordination in a laboratory studying the influence of sleep-circadian rhythms on brain development, behavioral performance, and mental health in young people (children, adolescents, young adults). This position is responsible for oversight on NIH-funded human subject projects focusing on age-related changes in sleep and future mental health risk. In this role you will provide project coordination of two studies, conduct clinical and behavioral research protocols, and provide lab management assistance to the Principal Investigator.

The ideal candidate would be highly organized; detail-oriented; have an ability to prioritize among multiple tasks; and possess strong interpersonal skills including teamwork, friendliness, communication, dependability, flexibility, and leadership.

This individual will work closely with other research staff, a data manager, and undergraduate volunteers, as well as with the staff of the Sleep and Behavioral Neuroscience Center.

This is a Regular Full-Time position with daytime hours primarily Monday – Friday. Occasional evening/weekend hours will be required to accommodate research participants’ schedules or provide staff support if questions arise. This is a hybrid position with an expected minimum of 3 in-person days per week at our lab in Western Psychiatric Hospital.

This position is grant funded.

Responsibilities:

  • Organize daily activities and timelines for research study protocols.

  • Supervision and schedule management for junior staff and undergraduate volunteers

  • Coordination of participant recruitment, tracking, and retention

  • Manage scheduling of assessments and participant payments.

  • Administer informed consent and assent

  • Conduct screening interviews and participant onboarding

  • Responsible for preparing and modifying IRB protocols, Regulatory Binders, and Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Communicate effectively with relevant research, clinical, and administrative staff.

  • Partner with administrators on purchasing and budget management

  • Demonstrate respect and sensitivity to study participants. Interact skillfully with adolescent, young adult, and clinical populations.

  • Handle sensitive clinical and research data in compliance with University, State and federal requirements.

  • Bachelors degree required, preferably in Psychology, Neuroscience, Sociology or related research field.

  • Minimum of one year of work experience in research project and/or related clinical setting is required. Three years is preferred.

  • Two-year commitment is preferred.

  • Previous experience with adolescents and/or families is preferred.

  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.

  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.

  • Complete and pass on-line ethics and research practice training modules as required by the University of Pittsburgh and the National Institutes of Health. Completes other trainings as required by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

  • Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
