Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sr. Manager, Benefits is responsible for overall design, communication, compliance, planning, implementing, maintenance and administration of GNC's benefit strategy. This position will develop, design, implement and continuously monitor GNC's benefit programs and activities to attract and retain employees with market competitive and financially sound programs, including but not limited to, retirement, group medical/surgical, disability, life and vacation/sick plans.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with Human Resources leadership to develop and drive total benefits philosophy.

  • Design, develop, and execute benefit strategies; ensure benefits goals are aligned to the Company's goals and objectives while respecting the differences between corporate, retail & distribution needs.

  • Researches and recommends program improvements as appropriate to maximize impacts on personnel and overall employee experience, focusing on designing tailored benefit strategies and programs for a diverse employee population.

  • Manage the day-to-day administration of health & wellness benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, life and paid time off.

  • Leads ongoing education and guidance to personnel regarding health and welfare issues.

  • Analyzes, recommends changes to, and updates, as necessary, current policies and procedures related to benefits programs, their management, and administration to ensure efficiency, regulatory compliance, and attainment of best practices.

  • Responsible for full administration, management and oversight of 401(k) Plan, Deferred Compensation Plan and Canadian RRSP Plan, including weekly funding of employee and employer contributions.

  • Oversees the management of all leave programs at the company and all components, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local leave laws.

  • Oversee the preparation of all data for non-discrimination testing, Plan audits and 5500 filings.

  • Oversee the determination of eligibility, vesting calculations, distributions, loan delinquency and QDRO processing

  • Facilitate annual benefits pricing and design effort or periodic plan reviews.

  • Select and manage ongoing relationships with external consultants and suppliers (benefits consultants, brokers, trustees, and necessary legal assistance) to ensure the organization receives satisfactory standards of service. Work with Finance to determine and manage the benefits budgets, including determination of department accruals.

  • Process and manage all department vendor payables including purchase order determination and account reconciliations.

  • Manage and monitor vendor performance and performance guarantees and coordinates the renewal process, financial review and negotiations in vendor bidding process.

  • Manage and lead annual open enrollment process including communications, plan changes and financial premium impact.

  • Keep apprised of government legislation and maintain employee benefit plan compliance with new regulations and requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with all legal requirements of various employee benefit programs and prepare / file legal reports including but not limited to directing completion of required Plan Documents, SPDs, Form 5500s, Summary Annual Reports and employee notification to eliminate risk exposure related to fiduciary liability on behalf of Plan Trustees and Corporate Officers.

  • Analyze current workflow and processes for benefit administration and recommend redesign for effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Ensure programs and issues are managed and administered effectively

  • Provides subject matter expertise regarding benefits issues, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices.

  • Additional duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for supervising a team of employees.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key accountabilities of the job required

  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master's) preferred

  • 8+ years progressive Benefits experience required

  • 5+ years in a leadership role (direct or indirect)

  • Prior managerial/supervisory experience

  • High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications

  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)

  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts

  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients

  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.

  • Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management

  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
