Guardian Life Litigation & Investigations Paralegal in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

If so, Guardian is seeking a Paralegal to provide high quality and a diverse range of litigation services and investigative support to the Law and Investigations Team.

As a Litigation and Investigations Paralegal, you will collaborate with attorneys, other paralegals, and investigators, who support Guardian’s multiple business units on a broad range of legal, compliance, and suspected fraud issues. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and assignments and must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize.

You will

  • Furnish litigation support including file set-up and maintenance, document collection and fact gathering, maintaining discovery repository.

  • Open new matters within a case management system and coordinate discovery activities, including the identification of records custodians, issuing, and managing document preservation notices, assisting in electronic discovery and the review and production of crucial documents.

  • Conduct legal research by utilizing various databases such as Thomson Reuters, LexisNexis, and other online sources of information.

  • Review and draft pleadings, research memoranda and communications.

  • Respond to subpoenas and other regulatory/governmental requests, coordinate with investigative agencies and multiple business areas.

  • Develop an investigative plan and conduct fraud investigations from start to finish, including in difficult, sensitive, and urgent situations.

  • Analyze and appraise evidence to reach an informed objective opinion and communicate investigative results in a professional, prompt, confidential, and accurate manner.

  • Conduct effective interviews with persons from all socio‐economic levels and obtain accurate statements.

  • Negotiate and draft settlement agreements to recoup monies owed to Guardian.

  • Support Litigation team operations by assisting in managing calendars, ordering supplies, submitting invoices, and assisting with travel arrangements and expense tracking.

You have

  • A college degree or Paralegal Certificate.

  • Investigation or claims experience within financial services, or insurance preferred.

  • Prior law firm or in-house experience a plus.

  • Demonstrated skills and is well versed in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Databases and Administrative Systems.

  • Strong research and writing skills.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Reporting Relationship

This role reports to the Assistant General Counsel, Litigation.

Location /Travel

Hybrid role –In office 2 -3 days a week in Bethlehem, PA or Pittsfield, MA.

Salary Range

$56,680.00 - $85,015.00

The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
