Position Purpose:

Supervises the workforce to operate and maintain wastewater treatment plant and facilities in compliance with applicable company policies/procedures, regulations, and law. This position entails professionalism and independent judgment, and the overall ability to work effectively at all levels.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and schedule a variety of maintenance, installation and repair projects for the wastewater system in the VEOLIA Water Princeton Meadows Operations.

  • Assign work crews to specific jobs based on job requirements and work force ability.

  • Supervise, inspect and perform maintenance, repair and installation work to be completed in the wastewater system of the VEOLIA Water Princeton Meadows Operations.

  • Receive work orders and complete by determining materials to be used and manpower required.

  • Manage PM and CM program (assign>dispatch>close).

  • Assign work orders for issues discovered upon physical inspection and/or due to complaints received directly via customer call center.

  • Periodically inspect work in progress by private contractors to verify quality of work and ensure they stay within budget.

  • Order material and equipment needed to perform installation and repair.

  • Partner with the Engineering Department in the prioritization of the Capital Projects.

  • Partner with EHSS to conduct periodic safety and training programs.

  • Safety monitoring of crews at work site.

  • Prepare reports as required by VEOLIA and all regulatory agencies.

  • Prepare and implementing the department's operational scheduling and standard operating procedures.

  • Monitor KPIs.

  • Ability to respond to emergency calls and work extended hours as needed (the incumbent must be member of VEOLIA Water Princeton Meadows Operations emergency callout rotation).

  • The incumbent demonstrates safe work practices, takes part in safety meetings, and advises the superintendent of any non-conforming conditions.

  • Oversees the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant and collection system to ensure compliance with regulatory procedures and reporting practices.

  • Sets the tone for safety and housekeeping.

  • Participate on cross-functional teams.

  • Perform other projects / tasks/ duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.

  • AS/BS degree in related field or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum of five years of experience in the construction, operations, maintenance and repair of wastewater systems; a minimum of two years of supervision experience is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the materials and methods used in the maintenance and construction of a wastewater system as well as the tools and equipment used to perform these functions such as pumps, blowers, conveyors and monitoring equipment.

  • Thorough knowledge of treatment and process control, sampling techniques and analyses.

  • Able to read and interpret drawings, GIS and work specifications.

  • Ability to work independently, use good judgment and make sound decisions in accordance with established procedures and policies.

  • Ability to estimate material, equipment and labor costs.

  • Able to write reports and correspondence, dispatch work orders.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships at all levels internal and external.

  • Knowledge of systems and software programs including GIS and asset management (CMMS).

  • State and federal laws, rules and regulations applicable to area assigned.

  • Strong knowledge in methods, practices, procedures, materials and equipment associated with the construction, maintenance and repair of wastewater system.

  • Ability to safely handle chemicals, manage inventory to ensure adequate supply is on hand.

  • Knowledge of electrical, instrumentation and control (SCADA) systems

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering plans and drawings and GIS mapping.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • NJDEP Operators Certification S2 and C2 required.

  • S3 and C3 are highly preferred but must be attained within 3 years.

  • Valid driver's license is required.
