This will primarily be accomplished by successful management of assigned NPD projects, from product line improvements, extensions and SKU rationalization up through complete new product launches starting at the ideation/feasibility stage. The position will lead project teams that are responsible for the successful delivery of product launches which are on schedule, to cost, and meet quality requirements that will support product acceptance and competitiveness. Duties Directly lead medium to large size/complexity NPD projects, making efficient use ofproject management tools and methodologies that mesh with Wagner's systems within each functional support group. Ensure members of each NPD team know and execute their particular roles. Drive communication between department leaders to monitor and track the overall goal of achieving set milestones in time. Set up and maintain project schedule until start of production. Allocate required capacity of team members in project management resource tool (SAP PPM) and monitor planned hours vs. actual hours Communicate project portfolio status to the NPD to Senior Project Manager of the NPD Project Management Group/Office as required to support Gate Review and strategic planning meetings. This will involve identifying and evaluating risks including possible resource bottlenecks for existing as well as upcoming projects so adjustments to project phasing, resource planning, or other countermeasures can be proposed and acted on based on agreement by the executive team. Assist in prioritizing assigned new product development projects to ensure successful completion; delivered on-time, within budget, and to quality standards required for each project. Help identify existing optimization potentials to continuously improve the Product Creation Process and elevate it to the next level of excellence. Relationship to Others In-depth communication with various levels of all operations functions, engineering, product management, marketing, accounting, customer service, and technical service. Facilitate regular team meetings using best practices and support project team communication with suppliers, consultants, and technical experts as needed. Occasional communication with customers, sales staff, and employees at other Wagner locations will be required. Much of the relationship with other functions is either providing or seeking information, assisting with risk assessment and suggesting problem resolution, and negotiating for priority; this necessitates strong communication skills. Dimensions of Position The Project Manager will take direction from Senior Project Manager within the PS&P NPD Project Management Group/Office. Owns overall development of project plans and manages project schedules to completion by directly or indirectly driving the activities f the project team members. This will be accomplished by managing project task lists to completion through timely communication of team meeting minutes ensuring that all team members are properly informed and activities are properly coordinated across departments. Cumulatively this could involve up to 20 or more exempt and non-exempt personnel with diverse experience and backgrounds, including highly trained and skilled professionals. Responsible for managing the overall project risk, budgets, and conflicts within the teams, keeping them on track in support of a wide cross-section of new product development efforts that will drive significant annual gross sales revenue for the company. Upwards of 30% of annual gross sales revenue will come from products released in the previous 3-5 years. Capital budget to support individual projects typically ranges from $25k to $250+k; overall NPD capital budget responsibility on an annual basis may exceed $1M. Works with confidential information including company financials, product engineering specifications, and company strategic plans. SKILLS & ABILITIES: Education Bachelor's degree in business management, marketing, engineering, operations, or related field is required. Associate's degree in business management or related field may be considered for candidates with significant on-the-job technical project management experience. Working knowledge of industry best practices for new product development and applicable project management methods is necessary; this may come from past studies and/or practical work experience. Formal leadership and/or management training during professional career also a strong plus. Experience Six to eight years' experience in a product development environment. Three to five years of product management, technical service or engineering experience within a consumer durables or related business is very desirable. Four years of leading successful new product development teams using a variety of project management techniques, including phase gate processes. Well-versed and extremely comfortable communicating with functional group managers regarding project plans, status, and schedules. Basic understanding of finance for non-financial managers. Working knowledge of MS Office tools, SAP system capabilities, engineering design processes such as DFMA & FMEA, blueprint reading, plus operations, quality, and purchasing processes. Basic understanding of product regulatory agencies (UL, CSA, ETL, CE, etc.); relative costs and time requirements. Ability to handle multiple projects at same time in a fast pace work environment Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a full range of functions within the global organization, with suppliers, outside consultants/agencies, and customers.
