Cal Poly Pomona Foundation, Inc. General Manager Kellogg West Hotel in Pomona, California

SUMMARY: Reporting to the COO, the Associate Director serves as the General Manager for Kellogg West Hotel and Conference Center manages the overall property operations, including catering services, to ensure efficiency and profitability while overseeing $4 million in annual revenue, providing staff oversight, facilities management, and supports university activities at Kellogg West and Kellogg House Pomona events venue. The Kellogg West Hotel and Conference Center is embraced within the sprawling Cal Poly Pomona campus.

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

  • In consultation with the Associate Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, leads the Kellogg West management team in developing multi-year strategic plans that include capital expenditures, staffing structure, pricing, technology needs, and multi-year cash flow projections.
  • Responsible for the development, direction, and management of $4 million annual budget with reasonable year-over-year revenue growth.
  • Ensures services executed are of the highest quality with strong attention to detail in order to achieve optimal financial performance and guest satisfaction, from initial inquiry/booking to building long-term clientele.
  • Ensures staff receive proper training for each position, including safety training and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Utilizes hotel and conference center industry standards, best practices, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor and direct operational performance; Effectively aligns policies, procedures and systems with industry, Foundation, and CSU best practices.
  • Develops and implements marketing plans and initiatives with measurable revenue growth goals. Challenges, motivates, and engages the sales team through establishing stretch revenue goals and incentives.
  • Analyzes business partnerships and negotiates contracts that support the technology, facilities, culinary, and service needs of the department.
  • Provides regular operational reports including, but not limited to, the Executive Management Team.
  • Oversees the coordination of routine maintenance and capital improvement activities to ensure optimal guest experience.
  • Is attentive to high level / VIP culinary and hospitality needs of the University, its partners and external community.
  • Fosters beneficial inter-departmental, company-wide, campus, community, and vendor partnerships.
  • Actively Participates in various campus and Foundation committees and industry associations. Engages in collaborative initiatives to benefit Foundation, university, and student needs.
  • Collaborates with Collins College of Hospitality Management (CCHM) to develop and continually expand Hospitality educational programs and/or internships within the operation to the mutual benefit of KW and CCHM.

``` - SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises the departments leadership team consisting of approximately six individuals including the Assistant General Manager for Sales, the Assistant General Manager for Operations, the areas of Food and Beverage, facilities supervision, and part-time positions. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 4 years of professional experience in a hotel, conference/events center, or related field and a 4-year college degree or equivalent in Hospitality Management, Business, or similar field
  • Must have a strong understanding in hospitality management and event management software and other related technologies.
  • Must have valid CA drivers license.
  • Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Must be able to exercise discretion and sound judgement.
  • Must be able to identify, mitigate or solve problems as necessary.
  • Must have effective listening skills, and ability understand, and address concerns raised by guests, staff, or community members.
  • Must have strong financial and data analytical skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6 years or more of progressive professional experience in the Hospitality Management sector or similar field.
  • Current professional certification from a Hospitality, Higher Education Auxiliary, or similar industry association.
