Medical Technician I - US, Portland, OR Hybrid: Office/Remote

We are currently seeking a Medical Technician I to join our diverse and dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced CLIA and CAP certified laboratory for a leading global provider of outsourced services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries. Our Medical Technicians ensure the highest quality nucleic acid extractions, ensure timely storage of clinical samples, and perform general duties for the molecular laboratory, as directed.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Recognizing, exemplifying, and adhering to ICON's core values which center on our commitment to people, clients, and performance.

  • Embracing and contributing to our company culture with a focus on meeting client timeline expectations and supporting the molecular testing lab.

  • Performing quality sample nucleic acid extractions using manual, automated, and semi-automated methods per standard operating procedures and in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices.

  • Responsibility for clinical sample storage in accordance with current written procedures and on on-the-job training practices.

  • Ensuring reagents are prepared, stored, and used in a manner suitable to the task performed, and maintaining proper documentation as to ensure quality records.

  • Completing all paperwork and maintaining quality records in accordance with Good Documentation Practices.

  • Adhering to all written internal and external quality control procedures.

  • Maintaining a “Own It” mentality by recognizing and acknowledging mistakes with an emphasis on immediately bringing any suspected issue to laboratory management’s attention.

  • Responding to queries regarding quality issues with extractions and participating in root cause analysis investigations as directed by the laboratory management team.

  • Assisting with the evaluation and validation of new extraction methods, as needed.

  • Participating in, and maintaining, required Continuous Education requirements.

  • Recognizing the importance of clinical specimens and maintaining a strong commitment to quality while working with efficiency.

  • Conducting all other tasks relevant to the general running of the molecular laboratory, as assigned.

Your profile

  • BSc or BA: Biology, Molecular Biology or Chemistry

  • 1+ year of laboratory experience.

  • Manual Nucleic Acid extraction and Pipetting experience

  • Prefer experience working with a Laboratory Information System.

  • Prefer experience working with Clinical Laboratory specimens, especially whole blood.
