The Opportunity:

 

The Academic Success and Career Center (ASCC) invites you to join us as an Academic Advisor/Coordinator of the Advisor Learning Program at Washington State University (WSU)! In this role, you will coordinate and develop the Advisor Learning Program (ALP) for the WSU advising community, as well as schedule, oversee, and track professional development and training activities for academic advisors, and assess and address the evolving needs of academic advisors across the WSU system. You will also coordinate new advisor training regularly and assist in creating and distributing training materials.

 

As an academic advisor, you will provide quality academic advising and coaching to undergraduate students at WSU, manage an advising load that reflects a diverse student population, and participate in ASCC services, including drop-in advising, student workshops, reinstatement activities, career expos, and related events. Additionally, you will represent ASCC at recruitment and orientation programs and clarify university academic policies and procedures for students. Required Qualifications:

 

• Positions require a Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

 

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage positively and effectively with diverse constituents.

 

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

 

• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

 

• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office including Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.

 

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines.

 

• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and exercise professional judgment including the ability to work independently.

 

• Ability and willingness to occasionally travel and work some evening and weekend hours.

 

• Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

• Master's degree in a related field.

 

• Previous work experience with program development and event planning.

 

• Previous work experience in a higher education setting.

 

• Previous work experience in advising individual students or groups.
