Jacobs Network Engineer - Top Secret in Quantico, Virginia

In this role you will support challenging, mission-critical projects that make a direct impact on the nation’s security and intelligence mission.

The Network Engineer will lead and participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely, accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.

Responsibilities:

  • Support of switches, various routers, firewalls, and wireless networking components

  • Support of routing and switching protocols

  • Support encryption devices

  • Support of existing Network Management Systems to include the backup and recovery operations of the servers/equipment that support these systems

  • Operations and maintenance of the infrastructures required for program networks

  • Timely alerts to the designated representative when additional hardware or software is required to maintain the availability or performance of network functionality

  • Perform pilot testing for new project implementations

  • Support all activities throughout the implementations of program projects to include; installation, and remote technical support

  • Implementation of network solutions related to network connectivity, specifically for locations with limited traditional telecommunications infrastructures

  • Provide technical assessment of new technology

  • Design, implementation, and configuration of program specific needs for cross domain implementation (cross domain solution to be provided by the customer) which will transmit data between unclassified and classified networks.

  • Support configuration and maintenance of the IP network components to include switches, routers and firewalls.

  • Perform software upgrades and configuration updates as required to maintain the desired network features and functionality

  • Research, develop, and evaluate networking technologies and solutions required to satisfy defined requirements

  • Document and provide the results of engineering evaluations to include recommended actions.

  • Develop plans to create new capabilities, enhance existing capabilities, and to integrate Commercial off the Shelf and other applications, services and data sources as directed

  • Coordinate with the Information System Security Officer (ISSO) on all changes to the system

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Experience in implementation, and technical support of network devices (Cisco routers, Layer 3 switches, ASAs, and networked servers)

  • Must have knowledge and hands-on experience with TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, and relevant Layer 2 & Layer 3 networking protocols (ARP, 802.1q, STP/RSTP, IPSEC VPN, etc.)

  • Must have knowledge and hands-on experience with Cisco OSPF and BGP routing protocols

  • Experience with network Operating Systems such as Cisco IOS and Cisco ASA.

  • Must be available 24/7 for system troubleshooting and support

  • On an as needed basis or as requested, visit and provide support

  • Must be able to communicate technical information to customers with varying skill levels

  • Experience designing and documenting process and procedures

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a high degree of self-motivation

  • Experience implementing and maintaining IPSEC and SSL VPN solutions

Clearance Required:

  • Active Top Secret

Preferred:

  • Previous experience securing responsible networks by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring network access.

  • Able to work with little to no supervision.

  • Analytical thinker with strong attention to detail.
