Safe Horizon Restitution Coordinator, Criminal Court in Queens, New York

Summary:The Restitution Program is responsible for the collection and disbursement of court-ordered restitution to crime victims for unreimbursed expenses related to the crime.Responsibilities:For Program and Supervisors Supporting Client-Facing Staff: Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients. Coach and guide staff in their client practice that reflects these approaches.Conduct restitution intakes for criminal and supreme courts.Liaise with District Attorney’s Office, Department of Probation, and court personnel regarding restitution matters.Verification of victim information.Monitor daily cash receipts/disbursement transactions and processes in the restitution database.Inform the Director, Restitution of potential issues and collaborate on managing the resolution.Prepare monthly statistics reports.Monitor accounts receivable, accounts payable and daily banking tasks.Report any unusual collections or court documents to Restitution Specialist..Provides guidance and training to Restitution Processing Assistant, as needed.Resolve any discrepancies between restitution database and physical office file.Prepare information for compliance reports as needed.Work with complainants throughout the restitution process including notification of restitution orders, payment distributions and appropriate referrals and resources.Maintain department files and records, including regular documentation of restitution activity.Other duties, as assigned.Interacts with:District Attorney’s OfficeDepartment of Probation officersCourt personnelDefendants and ClaimantsQualifications:Previous restitution or court administrative experience is preferred.Minimum of two years AR/AP experience.High School diploma or equivalent relevant experience required.
