SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Patient Access team is responsible for direct interaction with patients and provides support across multiple hospital departments. This position plays a crucial role as they are frequently the initial point of contact for patients and their families, forming a cornerstone of our enduring relationship with the patient. ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

  • Responsible for the day-to-day coordination of pre-registration, eligibility verification, benefit verification, radiology scheduling, referrals and authorizations.

  • Sites served within the department include all Medical Group outpatient sites, Emergency Department and Hospital-based services. Works with Program Managers, Office Managers, Medical Office Associates, Practice Site Coordinators, Outpatient Directors and physicians to ensure that patients are appropriately processed through the system.

  • Provides rapid response to immediate patient needs. Plans, organizes, manages and evaluates the activities of a Provider and Patient Access Revenue Cycle group with direct line functional responsibility for those services.

  • Develops operational targets for the group that are consistent with overall PPAS Revenue Cycle goals and monitors performance against established benchmarks.

  • Works with Finance, Patient Financial Services, Revenue Integrity, Information Technology, Medical Group Management Council, Nursing Leadership, Administrative Staff and physicians for the purpose of information gathering, problem resolution, improving reimbursement and patient satisfaction and for the creation of institutional policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for the development, revision, monitoring and implementation of departmental and institutional policies and procedures and to ensure the policies adequately meet regulatory requirements and standards of the Hospital, Federal, State, The Joint Commission and other accrediting and licensing agencies.

  • Develops and implements quality assurance mechanisms in order to meet or exceed established standards of performance, including patient and employee satisfaction.

  • Responsible for hiring, disciplinary action, position allocations and dismissal recommendations. Maintains minimum staffing levels. Utilizes working knowledge of the information systems (i.e. Eclipsys, Cerner, Signature, Centricity) and is skilled in understanding the information technology to ensure systems are used to the fullest to support departmental operations.

  • Designs and runs system reports as needed. Participates in the review of new systems and the required testing and implementation of new systems and/or updates.

  • Identifies budget needs for the group and recommends strategies to optimize resource utilization.

  • Ensures compliance within the overall PPAS Revenue Cycle budget.

  • Leads information and team development staff meetings regularly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent knowledge in a job related field plus two (2) years supervisory experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree preferred.

  • Hospital/healthcare access experience preferred.
