Microsoft Corporation Product Designer II in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft 365 is made up of several different types of customer applications and experiences. Specifically, within the Office Product Group, our focus is on daily productivity tools used by millions of customers around the world. As part of the team, your mission is to help enable both our everyday customers and our developer community to succeed in their use of our products. We are responsible for the platform that allows developers (both first- and third-party) to integrate with and extend Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook across Windows, Mac, Office Online, iOS, and Android. We also partner closely with teams across Microsoft 365 to deliver a cohesive platform story for all Office developers. And our team is growing!

We are looking for a Product Designer II to join this growing team. In this role, you will work in small, cross-app, interdisciplinary teams to re-imagine customer workflows and enable our rich, 3rd party developer community to create experiences that support and extend our core offerings. You will work as part of a community with diverse styles, voices, and views that reflect the diversity of our customers. You will nurture and evolve our culture. You will design in the open to move fast and build experiences without seams. You will share, jam, and contribute to other’s work to make it better.

You demonstrate solid UX skills and interaction patterns while creating forward-thinking designs that are scenario driven and meet business goals. Being hands on, you will support and design breakthrough experiences that impact how millions of people use our products and services. 

As a Product Designer II, you demonstrate solid craftsmanship (with color, typography, grid, composition, design systems, prototyping, IA, interaction patterns, designing with data) while creating forward-thinking designs that are scenario driven to meet business goals. Being hands on, you will support and create breakthrough experiences that impact how millions of people use our products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver world-class interaction designs from initial concept through finished product

  • Create and assess design solutions based on user research input, user goals, and business requirements

  • Work closely and constructively with product management, visual and interaction designers, editors, engineers, and user researchers to iterate and deliver flawlessly 

  • Advocate for your design solutions by putting them in context of business and user goals 

  • Ability to travel for work occasionally

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design

  • OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep experience with Interaction Design and executing high visual craft

  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of AI trends in the industry

  • Proven track record of innovative design and thinking

  • Experience working cross-functionally with data scientists is a huge plus

  • Designing user experiences for enterprise and personal software and services

  • Creating and applying established design principles and interaction patterns

  • Aligning or influencing design thinking with teams working in other geographies

  • Experience using design components and pattern libraries

  • Proficient with UX design tools, preferably Figma

  • A portfolio demonstrating well thought through and polished end to end customer journeys

  • Solid in interpersonal communication skills and storytelling

  • Awareness of trends in mobile, communications, and collaboration

  • Ability to create highly polished design prototypes, mockups, and other communication artifacts

Product Design IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
