We are looking to hire a Senior Software Engineer to join Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team in leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. The products in our portfolio include Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure PostgreSQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Service Bus, Azure Event Grid, and Power BI. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.

​​Within Azure Data, the big data analytics team provides a range of products that enable data engineers and data scientists to extract intelligence from all data – structured, semi-structured, and unstructured. We build the Data Engineering, Data Science, and Data Integration pillars of Microsoft Fabric.​

​​We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer for the development of core components of the Cloud Data Warehouse that powers SQL analytics in Azure compute. You will work in areas related to query optimization, transactional storage and distributed query processing to build an elastic and scalable cloud DW to enable Tier1 enterprise workloads in Azure Data Lake. We are looking for passionate people with the ability to design components carefully, properly handle errors, write clean and well-factored code with good tests and maintainability.

Responsibilities

• ​​Feature Development: Contribute to the development of features, starting from the initial stages like prototype creation to ensuring widespread customer adoption. Work collaboratively within the development lifecycle, gaining hands-on experience in turning high-level feature requirements into tangible solutions.

• Documentation and Conceptualization: Generate software specifications and contribute to proof-of-concepts for various features. Contribute to the creation of prototype solutions, gaining exposure to the conceptualization process.

• Collaborative Teamwork: Collaborate closely with team members to overcome challenges and ensure a smooth workflow. Share knowledge and learnings with team members, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.

• Data-Driven Approach: Utilize data and telemetry tools to enhance feature development. Propose improvements to existing products based on data analysis, contributing to the overall enhancement of our cloud data warehousing solutions.​​

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR equivalent experience.​

Other Requirements

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

• This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR equivalent experience.

• Experience in developing Cloud online services or experience using cloud online services.

• Experience in Distributed Big Data systems.​

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
