Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Our team owns and builds a collection of libraries and tools that allow our customers to perform quick yet thorough software performance analysis. In this role, you will be working on projects and initiatives across Microsoft. This role will require demonstrated coding and collaboration skills. The candidate will be proficient at creating and maintaining warm and productive working relationships with other teams.

The team is looking for a full stack developer that can rise to challenges as business needs evolve. You will work on front-end UIs, APIs, and data processing approaches. Our mission is to Empower all developers and analysts by creating performance diagnostic tooling such that “no problem can hide” - from instrumentation of software, collection of data, analyzing the data, and then delivering quality insights back to users.

You will be working on systems and designing solutions that facilitate diagnostic and telemetry data processing from devices. You will need to deliver solutions that are extensible, scalable, and adaptable as the business grows.

As a Senior Software Engineer in our team, you will own the development and optimization of libraries and tools that empower customers to swiftly conduct comprehensive software performance analysis. You will collaborate with internal product teams and Microsoft partners to incorporate innovative concepts into data visualization and engineering solutions, ultimately improving the end-user experience for platforms like Xbox, Windows, Surface, Azure, and Linux. You'll also play a key role in enhancing the performance diagnostic tooling that reveals insights through data collection and analysis.

We offer location flexibility within the USA, with the primary work location in Redmond, WA. You will have the option to work partially or fully from home.

Responsibilities

  • Supports identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product feature with oversight.

  • With guidance, learns to create and implement code for a product, service, or feature reusing code as applicable.

  • Assists and learns about breaking down work items into tasks and provides estimation.

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) in monitoring system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions for simple problems, and recommends actions to restore system/product/service by following the playbook.

  • Reviews current developments and proactively seeks new knowledge that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated full-stack development experience, with proficiency in Windows Presentation Foundation.

  • Demonstrated software development and product shipment experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C++ and/or C#.

  • Demonstrated understanding of computing platforms, developer workflows, and tooling ecosystems.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
