Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

  • V2X is seeking an IT Technical Documentation Manager who will be responsible for leading a team to design, create, maintain, and manage comprehensive documentation for our IT systems, processes, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IT, excellent writing skills, and experience managing a small team. The manager will also work closely with IT teams to ensure that documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible to support various stakeholders, including IT staff, end-users, and external auditors.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of technical writers to develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for IT systems, including but not limited to network diagrams, hardware and software configurations, system architecture, and standard operating procedures.

  • Create, refine, and implement documentation standards, templates, and best practices for a smooth process lifecycle.

  • Review and edit documentation to ensure clarity, consistency, and adherence to company and organizational standards. This includes working with key stakeholders to create/update documents meant to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations among the members of the organization to encompass compliance plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policy and procedure documentation and compliance reports.

  • Establish document control procedures to ensure secure storage, retrieval, and version control of all IT documents, including compliance-related files. Implement document management systems or tools to facilitate efficient documentation workflows and collaboration.

  • Organize and categorize documentation to facilitate easy retrieval and reference, utilizing appropriate tools and platforms.

  • Assist with establishing procedures for conducting audits and quality checks on existing documentation to identify gaps, inconsistencies, or outdated information.

  • Manage documentation projects, including assigning tasks, setting deadlines, and tracking progress.

  • Train and mentor team members on technical writing principles, tools, and technologies.

  • Stay current with industry trends and developments in IT documentation practices. Regularly review and update documentation to reflect changes in technology, processes, and procedures.

  • Work closely with project teams to document new systems, implementations, and upgrades throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Create user guides, training materials, and knowledge base articles to support end-users and IT staff.

  • Coordinate, write, edit, manage, and publish content for internal IT websites.

  • Collaborate closely with a variety of stakeholders to develop and execute communication action plans to introduce changes to our IT services and make the transition(s) smoother.

  • Provide training and support to IT staff on documentation processes and tools.

  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment where innovation as well as continuous learning and improvements are encouraged.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology (IT), Technical Communications, Computer Science, or related field.

  • Certification:

  • ITIL Foundation Certification is preferred.

  • Certifications in IT, technical writing, documentation management, project management or related field a plus. Examples below:

  • Project Technical Writer Certification (PTWC)

  • Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) – Foundation

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)

  • Agile or Scrum

  • Experience:

  • At least 7-10 years of proven experience in IT documentation, technical writing, or knowledge management in an IT setting.

  • At least 1-3 years of experience effectively managing or leading a team of technical writers.

  • Proficiency in documentation tools and platforms, such as Confluence, SharePoint, or wiki systems.

  • Familiarity with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) or other IT service management frameworks.

  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative editing tools.

  • Extensive knowledge of IT security best practices and compliance standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST).

  • Expertise in documentation management best practices, standards, and methodologies to establish consistent formats, templates, and version control processes.

  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.

  • Other Requirement:

  • US Citizenship required

  • Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.

  • Proficiency in writing clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation tailored to different audiences, including IT professionals and end-users.

  • Strong organizational skills to categorize, structure, and maintain documentation in a logical and accessible manner, using appropriate tools and platforms.

  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness in documentation, including system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to understand complex IT systems and processes, identify documentation needs, and propose effective solutions.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Software:

  • Computer, documentation software, MS Office Suite, communication tools, version control systems (e.g., Git), diagraming tools (e.g., MS Visio), storage solutions, documentation templates, printers, and reference/training materials.

  • Technology:

  • Personal computer, printer, copy machine and other general office equipment

  • The successful candidate’s starting pay will be based on, but not limited to, their job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.

  • The following salary range is intended to display the value of the company’s base pay compensation and may be modified at the discretion of the company.

  • USD $ 85,000 - $ 160,000

  • Provided salary range minimum and maximum values correspond to variances between regional/geographic locations across the United States.
