· Job Description :

Under supervision of Manager of Clinical Pastoral Education, the chaplain resident ministers to patients, families, and staff around religious and spiritual needs. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the chaplain provides spiritual care and emotional support within the context of illness, crisis, loss and death. The chaplain is committed to the Mission and models its core values.

· Provide spiritual care and support for patients, families, and staff on assigned units. Provide prayer, support, and comfort especially to the dying patient and his/her family.

· Document in patient's medical record with appropriate intervention and plan of care

· Provide bereavement services as needed, including memorial services, funeral services, etc.

· Provide for the worship / sacramental / liturgical needs of patients and staff

· Participate as an active member of the multidisciplinary team with skills in spiritual assessment and pastoral care; Engage in education regarding ethical issues and ethical consults

· Participate in goals and objectives of the department.

· Participate in the department plan for continuous quality improvement

· Participate in maintenance of administrative procedures for the department in accordance with institutional policy

· Continuous learning and personal development

· Participate and maintain good standing in the BSMH Richmond CPE Program and professional education

· Develop skills to assess the emotional / spiritual needs of patients and families

· Engage in developing crisis intervention skills

· Engage in ongoing learning about diverse religious and cultural backgrounds

· Participate in the rotation for 24/7 coverage including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Requirements for admission to CPE programs include but are not limited to:

· A completed ACPE application

· An admission interview with a qualified interviewer to determine readiness for clinical learning

· Either graduation from high school/completion of a GED or ordination by a religious/spiritual tradition or commission to function in spiritual care by an appropriate religious/spiritual authority as determined by ACPE

· Fulfillment of education or experience requirements established by the ACPE accredited center

· Satisfactory completion of hospital onboarding requirements

· A signed Use of Clinical Materials Consent Form

· For the CPE residency program, we prefer candidates who have already completed 1 unit of CPE. Also, we prioritize candidates who have earned at least a bachelor’s degree and who possess a Master of Divinity or theological equivalent.
