The Colorado State Veterans Community Living Center at Rifle is located on Colorado's western slope in the scenic Colorado River valley. Rifle offers a mild climate, with plenty of clean mountain air and beautiful blue skies. Amidst this setting, the State Veterans Community Living Center at Rifle provides 89 beds of skilled nursing care, including a 18-bed Special Care Unit for residents with Alzheimer's Disease or related conditions. Serving veterans, their spouse and eligible "Gold Star" parents, we are committed to caring for the whole person by addressing the personal and social needs of each resident, as well as their physical and medical requirements. Primary Duties:
Building Maintenance:
Perform quality, multi-trade (electrical, plumbing, painting, dry walling, texture, tile installation, etc.) related repairs, construction, remodeling, inspections, routine and preventative maintenance on buildings and structures. Keeping same in a safe, optimum working order & appearance. Responsible for identifying, ordering and acquisition of associated parts and material. Conduct timely, required inspections of building structures to meet all CDPHE and U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs life safety codes and standards.
Equipment Maintenance:
Responsible for completing assigned work orders related to routine and preventative maintenance of all building equipment including but not limited to electrical plumbing, sewage and mechanical systems as well as appliances, climate control systems, fire alarm system, nurse call system, electric beds, wheelchairs, assistive devices in order to maintain safe, optimum working order and appearance. Conduct timely, required inspections on equipment to meet all CDPHE and U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs life safety codes and standards.
Groundskeeping:
Responsible for daily grounds keeping including but not limited to mowing, trimming, fertilization, spraying, pruning, weeding, raking, and irrigations of trees, grounds-cover and foliage. Maintains exterior fencing, sidewalks, patios, pavilion and parking lots daily to ensure they are clean of debris and/or trash. Maintains schedules and preventative maintenance on all equipment per assignment and documents work per system requirements. Completes assigned work orders related to grounds, reports any unsafe conditions to supervisor. Responsible for maintain facility policies and life safety codes in accordance with Colorado Department of Public Health and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience Only:
Four years of experience in the structural trades appropriate to the work assignment including carpentry, electrical, painting, and landscaping i.e.: mowing, edging and fertilizing lawns, weeding and mulching, landscape beds, trimming small trees, hedges and shrubs, removing unwanted, dead or damaged trees
planting shrubs, flowers and trees, watering gardens, lawns and landscapes, monitoring and maintaining plant health.
OR
Education and Experience:
A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to four (4) years
Candidates must be able to demonstrate:
1) Experience using hand and electric tools
2) Ability to read technical manuals and drawings (and)
3) Must be able to interact with employees and residents in a positive and helpful manner
Preferred Qualifications Include:
Plumbing: Maintain plumbing fixtures, address leads/clogs and installation of new fixtures.
Operating Equipment & Tools: Knowledge of equipment & tools to repair and work on HVAC, Drywall, Plumbing, Painting, Flooring, and Remodel Projects.
Customer Service: Providing customer service while working on projects around staff and students.
Building & Construction Skills: Knowledge of how to repair roofs, repair damaged drywall, masonry, HVAC Repairs, Remodel including demolition, framing, hanging & finishing drywall, install flooring, Painting, Plumbing and reading blueprints.
Public Safety: Keeping safety in mind while working on all projects.
Communication: Able to communicate effectively with supervisor and staff.
Technology: Record time sheets, input work orders/database, read and send emails.
Strong organizational and time management skills
Superior critical thinking and problem-solving skills
