Platform Engineer I

Role Overview

As a Platform Engineer I at Measures for Justice, you will play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing both our cloud and on-premise technical infrastructure. Collaborating closely with the IT & DevOps team, you will implement and uphold security standards and processes across our technical systems. You will also troubleshoot hardware and software errors, maintain our Kubernetes cluster, and support end users by completing tickets and documenting solutions. By ensuring the reliability and security of our technical infrastructure, you will enable Measures for Justice to continue its mission of reshaping the criminal justice system.

Key Responsibilities Maintain, configure, and ensure the reliable operation of cloud and on-premise compute infrastructure Upgrade and maintain the Kubernetes cluster, virtual machines, cloud instances, and on-premise servers/hypervisors Troubleshoot hardware and software errors, run diagnostics, and document problems and solutions Provide technical documentation, specifications, and training for developers and IT team members Perform or delegate regular backup operations and implement data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures Plan for capacity, storage, and database performance Service DevOps ticket requests and support software engineering teams with infrastructure setup and troubleshooting Organize work into stories and communicate progress regularly through standup meetings Capable of participating in an on-call rotation to respond to urgent organizational needs Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging by modeling inclusive behaviors and proactively managing bias

Your Experience Proven experience in systems administration, devops, or related roles Strong proficiency in version control systems, particularly Git Experience with at least one of the following programming languages: Python, Bash, or Groovy Experience with continuous integration systems such as Jenkins, TravisCI, or GitHub Actions Background developing internal training materials for developers and IT professionals Ability to pass FBI background check Able to and interested in regularly learning new technologies, tools, and skills

Bonus Points System administration and/or IT certifications in Linux, AWS, Kubernetes, or related fields Background using automation tools like Terraform, Packer, cloud-init, or other related technologies Experience with virtualization technologies or Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
