Description

Fisher Associates is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineerto join our Energy Group. TheSenior Electrical Engineerwill be responsible for the Electrical design of commercial-, community-, or utility-scale Renewable Energy Projects from collection system to interconnection. The Sr. Electrical Engineer will support projects from preliminary designs through COD (utility interconnection and construction management efforts), as well as the application of energy codes and standards while ensuring designs meet all contractual, code and permitting requirements.

The primary function of this role is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Establish and maintain strong client relationships adhering to the Fisher Clientship philosophy

  • In conjunction with the Electrical Group Manager, Client Service Manager, and Marketing provide input into firm’s BD efforts related to Electrical Engineering.

  • Support proposal creation with Electrical Engineering design scope and estimations for multi scope RFPs (Electrical, Civil, Environmental and Permitting).

  • Assist with maintaining a consistent and profitable pipeline of new clients and projects.

  • Serve as senior technical expert and resource to team members.

  • Collaborate effectively with Technical Managers, Project Managers, and Group Managers on all projects and staffing needs.

  • Ensure that electrical engineering services are commensurate with professional standards, local codes and energy standards, client requirements and company objectives.

  • Responsible for department Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) on designs and reports for all electrical-related work.

  • Conduct research to identify new technologies and methods that can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of electrical systems.

  • Generate project scope of work and technical specifications for the electrical portion of the scope based on project proposal requirements and bid documents.

  • Establish/improve standards and processes for discipline area.

  • Perform transmission/interconnection and/or electric market simulation studies (Power System studies, Coordinated Electric System Interconnection Review, Electrical Balance of Plant solutions and System Impact Studies).

  • Develop detailed electrical design for the construction package 30% 60% IFC including, DC site plan & electrical, AC site plan & electrical, and all related studies and calculations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university.

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering design in the medium voltage (MV) and high voltage industry.

  • Previous experience with Renewable Power Plans or Substation Design, or with a renewable EPC.

  • Professional Engineering (PE) License required.

  • Previous experience performing Steady State /Dynamic /short circuit studies and create/update models/ Relay upgrades-replacements /load flow analysis /protective device coordination studies/ grounding design-studies/ trenching-cabling/ cable ampacity and cable sizing/ equipment sizing and specifications/ GE & SEL applications/ lightning & lighting studies.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read, interpret and understand MV/HV SLDs proficiently is required.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook applications, power plant engineering design tools such as AutoCAD, PVCase, PVSyst, Digsilent ETAP, WinIGS, PLS-CADD, etc.

  • Working knowledge of IEEE, NFPA, NEC codes and NERC TPL, MOD, FAC, PRC, IRO Reliability Standards.

  • Act as an important contributor to expanding Fisher’s renewable energy business.

  • Must have a working knowledge of the Renewable and Conventional Power Plants regulatory environment, DC and AC side considerations, specifics about Renewable plant equipment and their applications/uses and the interconnection process, both behind and in front of the meter, as needed.

  • Desired: knowledge in power transmission analysis to predict congestion and interact with engineers and developers to help with price forecasting in various LMP markets, including but not limited to ERCOT, SPP, MISO, PJM, NYISO & NEISO. Knowledge of HV scope (Substation + Gen-tie) a plus.

  • Desired: Strong knowledge of Protection and Control Engineering.

Salary Range:$124,800 - $140,000 annually

Actual compensation may vary based on relevant experience, qualifications/education, and other factors.
