Leidos Health IT Linux Systems Engineer in Rockville, Maryland

Description

The Leidos Digital Modernization Sector Health IT Division is seeking an experienced Linux Systems Engineer to provide on-going infrastructure, platform and user support, including enhancements and maintenance of existing suite of applications and services deployed in a cloud infrastructure and operate and maintain items such as servers (physical and virtual), firmware, operating systems and application software.

This hybrid position based in Rockville, MD; candidate must be located in the DC Metro area for onsite meetings and client engagements. Candidate must be a US Citizen or US Person with the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Linux Systems Engineer will provide engineering expertise in managing and maintaining the infrastructure services and operating systems hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud and Virtual Data Center environments. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Build and configure Linux operating systems following HHS/ National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) U.S. Government Configuration Baseline (USGCB)/ Defense Information Security Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).

  • Perform server systems design, implementation and administration.

  • Analyze system failures to minimize outages and interruptions.

  • Perform backup and disaster recovery services.

  • Perform troubleshooting and recovery.

  • Apply operating system service packs and install security patches in compliance with Agency implementation guidelines.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 8 years of successful experience providing Linux engineering expertise in on-site and AWS cloud environments to Federal clients.

  • Current AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional certification or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator.

  • Current Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).

  • Working knowledge in all aspects of automation, telecommunications, and IT networks.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in managing and maintaining Linux environments (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu).

  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM).

  • Strong knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation.

  • Demonstrated experience performing server systems design, implementation and administration and analyzing system failures to minimize outages and interruptions.

  • Experience with AWS services such as SQS, S3, API gateway and SNS.

  • System engineering experience taking projects from initial concept through planning and implementation.

  • Working knowledge of SAN, clustering, backup and other enterprise applications to maintain availability and recoverability of systems.

  • Good communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ITIL Foundations certification.

  • Experience delivering infrastructure services in support of Health and Human Services (HHS) operating divisions, including National Institutes of Health (NIH), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

Pay Range:

Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00
