Job Summary:

Westat has an immediate opening for a Lead Research Associate - Data Analyst to conduct data analytics and programming for projects that use large healthcare datasets such as healthcare claims data. The successful candidate will work on a multidisciplinary team on a variety of health services research projects. Work will include conducting data analysis and programming to understand health care delivery, payment, quality, and policy. The candidate will also work with clients to provide technical assistance on data analyses conducted by project teams.

A hybrid work arrangement with 1-2 days on-site at a Westat office location is preferred, remote work arrangements will be considered.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Developing analytic programs to produce measures and statistical analyses on large healthcare datasets using SAS, R and Python and other similar programs.

  • Merging, cleaning, and manipulating complex healthcare data sets.

  • Analyzing results for interpretation.

  • Preparing data visualizations and reports to convey data findings.

  • Preparing analytic summaries and collaborating on reporting and dissemination.

  • Presenting findings to clients and other external data users.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in public health, economics, statistics, computer science or a related field with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience in programming and healthcare data analysis OR an MA/MS in public health, economics, statistics, computer science or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in programming and data analysis.

  • Familiarity with SAS and R programming.

  • Direct experience working with large healthcare datasets or databases, including healthcare claims data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with SQL and/or Python.

  • Ability to summarize or synthesize information for different audiences and purposes.

  • Ability to work independently, time management to effectively to coordinate completion of projects and tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated writing, communication, and organizational skills; collaboration with teams, managers and/or clients.

  • Experience and skill working with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
