The Katherine Thomas School is a private special education school that services students with language, learning, sensory motor disabilities, and autism. The Katherine Thomas School in Rockville, MD seeks to hire a full-time Social Worker beginning with the upcoming 2024/2025 school year. EOE
Responsibilities of the School Social Worker include:
Providing psycho-educational and social-emotional services to students and families of students enrolled in KTS
Student counseling - both group and individual
Providing parent support groups, family system assessments and parent conferences
Attending interdisciplinary team meetings, integration into the classrooms, liaison with community agencies and providing play therapy
Appropriate clinical record keeping to ensure that school standards for clinical accountability/quality programming are upheld
Requirements for the School Social Worker:
A master's degree in social work
An active license as an LCSW or LMSW in the state of Maryland or qualify at time of hire for licensure by endorsement (actively licensed in another state)
Experience with educational agencies and interdisciplinary teams is preferred
Clinical experience in school social work and/or play therapy
Experience with early childhood, developmental and behavioral approaches required
Effective oral and written communication skills
Interpersonal skills that bring about effective communication and positive interactions with students
Knowledge base regarding LD and ASD school populations
As a condition of employment, all employees are required to have received at least the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. New hires must receive any additional vaccine doses in the appropriate timeframes to be considered fully vaccinated and submit weekly test results until they are fully vaccinated.
