Northeast Ohio Medical University Postbac Research Technician in Rootstown, Ohio

This position is designed for recent college graduates considering graduate school in biomedical science to further education or for career advancement and will provide valuable experience and skills that can be applied to future endeavors. The role will conduct scientific research that includes tailored career development for academic progress, reporting to a Principal Investigator who will provide mentoring and career development. Incumbent should expect to commit to the position for a minimum of 1 to 2 years. 

 

Principal Functional Responsibilities

Responsibilities May Include: Design and conduction of scientific experiments, organizing and analyzing data, animal handling and experimentation, and general laboratory contribution. 

 

Professional Development:

• Participation in weekly journal club including attendance and presentation. In journal club, trainees and faculty present research articles and/or their own data to the group for discussion. This is an excellent platform in which to explore cutting-edge research and get to know fellow researchers in the group and their ongoing projects.  

• Attendance of weekly seminars. The seminar series is an opportunity to see leading researchers from around the world present their work in an interactive format.

• Graduate course audits tailored to the needs of the individual and the area of expertise of the lab. This course study is not for credit but provides background knowledge needed to effectively design and complete complex research. 

• Opportunity to attend research conferences to present data.

 

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree received in the last 3 years or master's degree received in the last 6 months.

• No specific professional skills necessary, however, research experience will be considered. 

 

Physical Requirements

Ability to collect and analyze experimental data which may include use of and handling experimental animals. Must be able to utilize applicable laboratory equipment necessary for the job, as well as a phone, computer and other office equipment.

 

Department Specific Information

Full-time paid research position to investigate cellular features of brainstem sound localization circuits. These systems are important for selective attention and may be disrupted by early life conductive hearing loss and contribute to central auditory processing disorder. The postbac researcher will support projects under the leadership of Bradley Winters, Ph.D. using advanced in vivo and ex vivo neuroscience methods in rodent animal models. Techniques used include dual dendritic-somatic patch-clamp, multiphoton imaging, and 

RNA sequencing. 

 

Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, biophysics, or related field and excellent English communication skills. Cover letter must include discussion of specific interests in graduate education and auditory system or neurophysiology and how these relate to current qualifications and future goals.
