Description

Fiber Optic Underground Linesperson

This position is responsible for safely operating a bucket truck while rodding existing ducts to pull fiber optics from the transformer or pole to the meter on the house/business.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Install fiber optics through the existing duct

  • Install overhead fiber optics

  • Duct rod existing primary cable

  • Install pull string

  • Assists crew with proper cable sagging techniques.

  • Ensure daily testing and inspection of assigned tools and equipment.

  • Maintain company equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Any other duties related to relocating overhead telecommunications.

  • Perform work or operate vehicle/equipment only where training and qualification have been provided.

  • Communicate all safety concerns, incidents, and near misses to the Foreperson

  • Ability to problem solve with unidentified circumstances on any job.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Weather permitting, this is a 40-hour-per-week job.

  • Must be able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, etc. Subject to call-out work).

  • Knowledge of: heavy equipment, proper sagging techniques, working around energized high voltage systems and parts, installing and removing over-head telecommunications, grounding procedures, rigging, hand lines, lineman knot tying, making and using a hand line, and minimum approach distance.

  • Understanding of Kellum grips.

  • Ability to:

  • Safely drive an approved company vehicle.

  • Identify electrical sources.

  • Identify different materials used in telecommunications linework.

  • Problem solve with unidentified circumstances on any job;

  • climb different structures and possess the tools to do the climb;

  • identify, operate and service all required tools and equipment. (i.e., bucket truck, digger derrick truck, tensioners, puller, rollers, hand tamp, chain saw, concrete saw, shovel)

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Pre-Screen:

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.

License & Certifications:

  • A valid commercial driver's license (CDL) is required.

Travel Requirements:

  • Willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work.
