Position Summary: The Senior Engineering Technician position assists in the development of new products, improvement of existing products, and understanding of competitive products by conducting data acquisition, testing and troubleshooting for all customers. Sets up and operates product test equipment. Develops new test methodologies / systems and reaches outside of Horton to learn research new methods, techniques and best practices that might be applicable. Conducts testing of components for internal/external customers and writes reports summarizing the test results. This may include travelling to customer sites independently to conduct testing. Assembles and tests prototype designs/products and provides input to engineering team. Why work for Horton? Responsibilities Senior Engineering Technician Responsibilities: 1. Samples and tests in-house and vendor supplied components according to engineering evaluation request instructions. * Determines best method(s) for satisfying test requirements to include design/development of new test equipment. * Sets up test stands and runs specified test routines on the selected sample of parts. * Using precision measuring equipment, measures the dimensions of parts per the established methods. * Familiarity with multiple data acquisition systems/techniques and uses them to records test results. * Writes reports to document test results and provides reports to the appropriate persons. * Maintain Tech Center equipment and inventory of supplies. 2. Works with design engineering staff to test parts under development and assemble and test product prototypes. * Measures and assembles parts per engineering instructions and provides feedback based on opportunities / successes. * Configures test stands, adaptors, wiring and, if needed, makes drawings of the test set-up for future reference. * Writes reports summarizing the results of tests. * Shares observations with the engineering staff and discuss further actions based on the results of tests. * Assist in designs and modifications of new and existing products. 3. Supports on-going cost reduction efforts by conducting testing of new / alternate parts to determine whether function or reliability will be affected. 4. Evaluates new technologies and test methods to determine their effectiveness in uncovering weaknesses in existing or proposed designs. 5. Interface with customers and sales representatives answering questions related to product operation, testing and performance. 6. Performs housekeeping duties related to work area. Daily maintenance of the work area including returning tools to the proper locations and general area cleanliness. 7. Other duties as assigned. Q alifications Senior Engineering Technician Qualifications: The position requires skills and knowledge consistent with that of four years of college or trade school or equivalent plus 6-8 years of technical or closely related experience. Note: equivalent education equals 2 years of closely related experience for 1 year of education. Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
