Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

Training Program Development:

  • Design and develop comprehensive training programs for engineers at all levels.

  • Create and update training materials, manuals, and online resources.

  • Incorporate hands-on workshops, e-learning modules, and practical projects into training curriculums.

  • Collaborate with local colleges and universities to identify and develop appropriate academic courses.

  • Collaborate with universities, to raise the profile of the business, for example by supporting guest lectures and collaboration workshops.

  • Support local Universities as part of steering committee.

  • Mentor, coach and guide interns, apprentices and graduates, as well as those assigned to internal training and development programmes.

  • Collaborate with professional institutions, e.g. the IET, IMechE, IMarEst, to retain professional registration, support candidates through application for chartership, or fellowship.

  • Promote careers with other like-minded external organisations and UKNEST.

  • Manage candidate ‘exchange’ programmes.

Needs Assessment:

  • Conduct regular assessments, and work with department leads to identify skills gaps and training requirements within the engineering teams.

  • Succession plan for key roles and early career planning.

Implementation and Delivery:

  • Facilitate training sessions, skills assessment, workshops, career fairs and seminars.

  • Support new starter inductions.

  • Support Continued Professional Development (CPD).

  • Coordinate with external trainers and vendors when necessary.

  • Utilise a variety of training methods, including in-person instruction, virtual training, and self-paced learning.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Track and analyse the effectiveness of training programs through assessments, feedback, and performance metrics.

  • Continuously improve training programs based on feedback and technological advancements.

Technical Resource Development:

  • Develop and maintain a library of technical resources and documentation.

  • Stay updated with the latest engineering tools, technologies, and best practices.

Mentorship and Support:

  • Provide or facilitate one-on-one coaching and mentorship to engineers.

  • Offer support for engineers pursuing professional certifications and continuous education opportunities.

  • Ideally support Professional registration Advice or Interview (PRA/PRI) for the IET.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with engineering teams, project managers, and other stakeholders to align training with organizational goals.

  • Communicate effectively with engineers to promote training opportunities and encourage participation.

Essential Qualities:

  • Degree qualified in Engineering or a related field.

  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, tools, and technologies.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging and effective training programs.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred (but not essential) Skills and experience:

  • Proficiency in various engineering software and tools.

  • Proven experience in engineering, technical training, or a related role.

  • Experience with e-learning platforms and digital training tools.

  • Certification in adult education or instructional design.

  • Experience with project management and agile methodologies.

  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and standards.

Work Environment:

Primarily office-based with occasional travel to other company locations or training sites.

Part-time hours would be considered.
