Purpose of the Role

To manage ERTMS safety critical training and competency within Rail Services. Responsible to the Senior Freight Trainer Assessor for ensuring effective implementation of railway group standards and industry codes of practice around the implementation of ERTMS, including strategies and policies significant to the safe operation of all freight. This also includes freight equipment owned by third parties and operated under contract. Responsible for assisting in maintaining the integrity of Colas Rail's ROG compliance. Implement and manage training and competency assessment regime, risk management and safety performance monitoring and Mainline Driver Training.

Person Specifications

  • Ensure effective systems are in place to manage freight and artisan’s competencies.

  • Co-ordinate training and re-certification of artisans and freight Drivers.

  • Maintain the staff competency data base.

  • Develop training and assessment documentation.

  • Deliver Mainline Driver training as required (Class 66)

  • Assist with Technical, Safety & incident investigations as required.

  • Analyses, forecast, plan and monitor the competency management system.

  • Attend meetings as business requirements

  • Lead and participate in Safety meetings as required.

  • Ensure compliance with all company standards and procedures

  • Liaise with Simulator team to deliver training and training plans/scenarios

  • The above does not limit your duties and the Company may require you from time to time to undertake within your capabilities and capacity.

  • As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.

  • Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a widely experienced railway person with an excellent knowledge of freight operation.

  • Be a qualified mainline Train Driver

  • Have comprehensive knowledge in rail industry standards relating to ERTMS including operational safety, and Health & Safety legislation.

  • Hold Trainer, Assessor Qualifications.

  • Be willing to undertake further training as the post dictates.

  • Have excellent communication skills and organisational ability.

  • Have excellent IT skills. Experience in administration organisation.

  • Hold UK driving licence.
