**[JOB OVERVIEW: [The purpose of the position is to operate the Juvenile Justice Center in accordance with written policy and procedures and supervise residents to ensure security for the public and safety for fellow residents, staff and visitors to the Center. This position works under the direction of the Superintendent - Juvenile Justice Center.

  • Responds to inquiries from law enforcement, schools and others (e.g. service providers) as permitted by law.

``` - Screens referrals of child abuse and neglect, status offense and delinquency made to the Juvenile Office to assist the Family Court Legal Counsel in determining legal sufficiency to proceed.

``` - Screens subsequent referrals for juveniles already subject to the Courts prior and continuing jurisdiction and on their respective caseload to assist the Family Court Legal Counsel in determining legal sufficiency to proceed.

``` - Completes the Juvenile Detention Assessment (JDTA) for juveniles referred for detention who are subject to the Courts prior and continuing jurisdiction and/or on their respective caseload to determine whether the juvenile is appropriate for detention.

``` - Consults with the Family Court Legal Counsels I and II in the preparation of the petition or motion to modify reflecting appropriate charge/allegation given information provided by the referral source and approaches the Court with the request.

``` - Participates in the interview process of a juvenile suspected of violating the law by informing the juvenile of his constitutional rights and ascertaining a free and knowing waiver of same before permitting questioning.

``` - Admits/releases juvenile from the Juvenile Justice Center consisting of but not limited to the exchange of personal property with written documentation of same.

``` - Enters and corrects all of the necessary and appropriate data in the Judicial Information System (JIS), the automated tracking system used by the Juvenile Office.

``` - Assesses juvenile for risk to do self-harm and places on suicide watch.

``` - Supervises and directs or monitors all activities including but not limited to meals, recreation, school, visiting, telephone calls, shower and exchange of clothing, medical examinations, etc.

``` - Assumes the lead role on the shift and directs the Intermittent Specialists to ensure that duties and responsibilities for each shift are completed.

``` - Administers medical procedures as directed by doctor and/or as follow-up to emergency room treatment. Dispenses prescribed medications as required. Performs emergency medical procedures, e.g. CPR.
