Burns & McDonnell Assistant Civil/Structural Engineer - Transmission (St. Louis) in Saint Louis, Missouri
Description
The Assistant Structural Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects.
Project work includes design of overhead high-voltage transmission lines. The market is continuing to evolve due to technology advancements and policy changes. Projects partner with utilities to design, plan, and improve the modern electric grid. Civil tasks with the group include:
Developing design criteria requirements for transmission line design
Modeling transmission lines in 3D modeling software
Determining geometry, loads, and performance requirements for transmission line structures
Coordinating strength and geometry requirements for wire support hardware assemblies
Assisting in the construction executing including development of civil construction specifications, cost estimate preparation, and survey coordination
Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. Required or
Bachelor Degree in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. Required
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience Preferred
Basic knowledge in standard structural engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
Basic computer skills include structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA), AutoCAD and BIM (e.g., Revit and Tekla).
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Engineers in Training-EIT Certification Preferred
