State of Utah - Jobs Case Manager for the Deaf and Hard of He in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

If so,Utah s Division of Services of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH) has an exciting opportunity for you as a full-time Case Manager in our Taylorsville office.  www.deafservices.utah.gov                                           Principle Duties The Case Manager will perform the following tasks:  

  • Conduct needs assessment.
  • Develop and implement service plans based on the needs assessments.
  • Make appropriate community referrals based on the client's needs.
  • Provide support and assist with advocacy and development of self-advocacy skills for clients in need.
  • Document client progress,and appointment discussions and revise service plan as needed.
  • Provides client with information concerning rights,options,benefits,services,goals,and expectations.
  • Prepares detailed case documentation such as a summary of appointments,names of referrals,and next appointment if scheduled.
  • Build relationships with various community partners.
  • Educate and train businesses and community partners in Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations.
  • Collaborate with community providers to ensure equal access to services.
  • Facilitate delivery of psycho-educational workshops.

Preferences Preference points may be given for:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Knowledge and understanding of deaf culture.
  • The ability to serve people in a manner that shows sensitivity,tact,and professionalism.
  • The ability to interview,* *screen,and assess client needs.
  • Non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
  • The ability to understand and respect the laws,rules,regulations,and/or policies and procedures.
  • The ability to understand principles,theories,and practices of human behavior.
  • The ability to listen and understand information and ideas expressed to them*.  *
  • The ability to build rapport with clients and service providers.
  • The ability to multitask and prioritize the critical needs of clients.
  • The ability to handle stress and pressure.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good presentation skills.
  • Good time management skills.

Ideal Applicant The model applicant for this position will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in human services or related fields. 
  • At least one year of professional work with deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
  • Willingness to travel outside of the office.
  • Knowledge regarding accommodations for the deaf and hard of hearing that will reduce communication barriers.

The Agency - DSDHH  The division was created under the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation in 1988 and provides services for people with hearing loss (Deaf,Hard of Hearing & DeafBlind); We provide services out of two locations:

  • Taylorsville,Utah Robert G. Sanderson Community Center of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing 
  • St. George,Utah Southern Utah Program Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services satellite office

The Utah State Division of Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is housed in a 32,000 sq. ft. facility named the Sanderson Community Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.  Built in 1992,and expanded in 2001,it remains one of the largest state-funded facilities in the nation. Named in 2003 after a locally and nationally known leader of the Deaf community,Robert G. Sandie Sanderson,Ph.D.,the facility attracts attention and visitors from across the nation. The facility boasts a full-size gymnasium,kitchen fit for cooking classes,lecture hall,meeting rooms,office space,as well as interpreter certification and assistive technology demonstration labs. The Agency - DWS The mission of Workforce Services is to strengthen Utah s communities by connecting the workforce to new opportunities and providing services to individuals and families in need. Today,more than 2,200 Workforce Services employees assist individuals in preparing for and finding jobs,meeting workforce needs of Utah businesses,administering temporary assistance,and providing economic data and analysis. Through a collaborative approach,the department has served millions of Utahns and has become a leader on several statewide initiatives. These include intergenerational poverty,homelessness,affordable housing,supporting refugees,helping rural communities,serving veterans and individuals with disabilities,and getting Utahns trained and back to work.
